Black residents reject Trader Joe’s because it would attract too many white people

The Trader Joe’s grocery chain has withdrawn plans to build a store in the heart of a predominantly black neighborhood after a black leadership group fought the move.

The Portland Development Commission was set to give the grocer a large discount on property that had been vacant for years, pricing it at just over $500,000, down from an appraised value of $2.9 million, according to The Oregonian.

The Portland African American Leadership Forum sent a scathing letter in December to city leaders, saying the plan would price residents out of the area and the group“remains opposed to any development in North/Northeast Portland that does not primarily benefit the black community.”

Trader Joe’s would increase displacement of low-income residents and “increase the desirability of the neighborhood,” for “non-oppressed populations,” PAALF wrote.

“[This decision] reflects the city’s overall track record of implementing policies that serve to uproot, displace and disempower our most vulnerable community members,” the letter said.

Trader Joe’s bowed out amid the controversy.

“We run neighborhood stores, and our approach is simple: If a neighborhood does not want a Trader Joe’s, we understand, and we won’t open the store in question,” a company spokesperson said in a statement to The Oregonian.

But not everyone is happy about the outcome.

“There are no winners today,” Adam Milne, owner of Old Town Brewing Co., told The Oregonian. “Only missed tax revenue, lost jobs, less foot traffic, an empty lot and a boulevard still struggling to support its local small businesses.”

“non-oppressed populations”

my dad is white and was told by the housing authority in his town that his place on the waiting list for elderly housing could be bumped by an “affirmative action” applicant.
so its unclear to me which population is oppressed.

How about the fact that it would have given local people jobs - then maybe they could have gone from oppressed to non-oppressed and stayed in their local community. Or maybe they would have had to bus in workers because the local community is too stoned and lazy to get off their backsides and work. Maybe if everyone got jobs the housing rates would go up - so what? Those that don’t work then can ‘Ease on down the road’ and find another place to be poor and lazy!

I like Trader Joe's...don't have one very near....but I like to look around there...to me, they're overpriced in most things...

except, they have wonderful fresh flowers in season, a good wine collection and a lot of unique items and specialty items that I like to buy....

but its not a poor man's store nor even a working man's store....

but anyone can feel a bit better about themselves when shopping at Joe's....lots of healthy foods and organics...even if you don't buy much of it, it does show your thinking is in the right direction....

why black "leaders" would shun this store is bizarre but follow the money....somebody will get a payoff somewhere down the line...

Its ok not to want white people. They would rather a blighted ghetto. Can`t lose that oppressed feeling. I`ve always wondered why wealthy blacks...say football players who are worshipped..don`t open stores in such places. You`d think rich black rappers would too. Waste of money perhaps? Maybe if everything in Trader Joes was free?

I found a food desert in the southwest side of Oklahoma City. I was staying there for a 3 week work trip in a hotel with a little kitchen and was trying to kick up my cuisine a notch with some good produce that the local Walmart couldn’t provide. That whole section of town is devoid of any decent grocery stores. The store that was recommended by hotel staff was worse than Walmart. I wasn’t looking for a Whole Foods, just some decent produce. That whole section of town is pretty run down, but it still makes you wonder where they shop.

The evil race hustling poverty pimps didn’t get their bribes behind the scenes.
Incredibly wicked that they can intentionally keep an area poor and crime ridden. True evil really.

We go to Trader Joes all the time and we see plenty of black people in the store shopping so it’s probably the whacko leftist feaks who hate the store since I believe they spoke out against obamacare

What a bunch of nonsense. The Convention Center is there. Lots of hotels as a result and lots of restaurants too. Within a half-mile is the Coliseum Sports Arena.

Portland, Oregon, a marxist hellhole proves again that stupidity rules.

Trader Joe’s is a great store and their prices are reasonable, plus the fact you can get things there you cannot get elsewhere (and at a good price).

So let’s total up the cost of stupidity and black racism (similar to that which almost cost Anacostia, DC hundreds of badly needed jobs and a Wal-Mart or Target store that would bring affordable products to a dying neighborhood.

* Loss of jobs where there is high unemployment or underemployment
* Loss of a career path for some
* College money or vocational school money for some
* Tax revenue
* Stopping the blight of unused property (Not driving people out of their homes - typical made up leftist, black ignoramus BS).
* Lack of a store for certain goods, meaning that residents would have to drive to further away places (costing time and gas)
* Black mob rules the turf, hurting everybody.
* Leaves more unemployed black kids on the streets to get into trouble
* Shows that the Portland Black Leadership bunch is really nothing but a bunch of racists and economic fools.
* Makes Portland look stupid and bigoted but I’m being redundant. White liberals must be crapping in their pants over this one.

To quote the famous philosopher Clevon Little, “Where the jobs at?”

Lesson Learned:

Blacks hurting blacks to prove nothing except that they are stupid, liberal/leftist racists who would hurt their own people to prove nothing.

Quick. Fly Obama out there for a Photo-Op. That is all the people in that neighbor might get, and you can’t eat it or pay the heating bills.

Somebody tell me that Black Democrats aren’t the stupidest people on earth.

Don't you damn white people bring your trashy money here,
and we don't want your charity. Unless the Gov takes it and gives it to us.

Clearly Trader Joe’s had no faith in the city of Portland’s ability to keep the race hustlers in line. Those squeaky wheels are NOT from that neighborhood.

FWIW Hubby and I checked out our local Trader Joe’s recently and were very unimpressed. It’s no Whole Foods, that I will say.

But still, they have my sympathy, as do the people living in this neighborhood. Maybe the residents should tell their self-appointed “leaders” to go jump in the lake.

The hood and their politicians would rather get rich the easy way: Through the trafficking of illegal drugs (600 billion US dollars in profit annually) and human trafficking ($10 billion).
