Oklahoma House Speaker T.W. Shannon officially announced his bid Wednesday for the U.S. Senate seat in his state that's opening up due to Sen. Tom Coburn's early retirement.
Shannon, an African-American who's starting to build a national profile and is considered a rising star in the GOP, made his announcement with statements on Twitter and his website before holding multiple campaign kickoff events.

Shannon advocated a measure to require Oklahoma recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (food stamps) to perform at least 35 hours of work activities or be denied aid....................Sounds like a good idea to me.

“It won’t be long before the RATS label him an uncle Tom.”
That was done the minute he announced that he was a Republican.

And this because conservatives and GOP bail on any of our candidates at the first negative story by the MSM. I couldn’t believe how many here on FR bailed on Herman Cain and other candidates...drinking the media Kool-Aid!
We are the problem here!

Oh noes, another black politician those racist Tea Party people are going to support. When will it end?
Hello? Dumocrats. I hear tell you are the only non-racists in the country, will you be supporting this black man for senate? Send in your donations now.

Former congressman Dan Boren, who heretofore had been considered the D heir apparent to run against Coburn or for Governor. Very high-profile name around here...
The smart money seems to think he might be hedging his bets though, and keeping his nice cozy job with the Chickasaw nation for awhile longer...

They lost confidence in Herman Cain because he funneled family money to another woman other than his wife, and his wife never knew.

Anyway to answer your question... if Boren's out of the picture, they've got former Governor "do nothing" Brad Henry, (whose recklessly driving chauffeur almost ran over my wife one afternoon on 21st street in Tulsa), and the former Mayor of Tulsa whose name I won't even mention, it's so detestable to me. She uh, got beat in her home town only getting 38 percent so she'd be toast in a statewide election. Really a mean-hearted, nasty person.
Other than those two you could take your pick from whichever state senator or representative at the statehouse. Even here, there are some who get elected from certain districts around the state...

You are correct. If he is a conservative, now is the time to back him with all we’ve got and clear a path for him.

What stopped Cain in 2000 and in his attempt at the 2004 Senate primary? Going from never holding office to defeating an incumbent president as his first election win, was not going to happen, don’t blame his shortcomings on FR, or even primary voters.
