ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has signed a law requiring manufacturers of thermostats with mercury to collect their old temperature controls in an effort to keep mercury out of the environment.
The measure requires they establish collection programs and in 2015 start filing annual reports on collections.

What about the planet Mercury? Shouldn’t it be destroyed? Change its name?
we played with a big glob in college
Do you believe the gall of these phonies. They want our old thermostats we so will buy the new ones they can control. My electric co. offered to pay for a new for me. Nice of them, but I like the one I got. I also aint got any of the new light bulbs. Will this stuff never end?
Merry Christmas!
That old mercury in thermostats is SEALED in glass.
300,000 to 630,000
If you are going to guess at a number, go big. Make it 300,000,000 to 600,000,000. Oh, because then it would be easy to see you are lying to the people again.
On a side note, the left seems so concern for “the children” yet would have no trouble aborting those same 300,000 to 630,000 children
FYI, that has been removed because the mfg are gutless, PC and grab their ankles for whiny EnviroTards.
It is perfectly legal to buy the phosphate and add it to your dishwasher or laundry. And it does make a difference.
Here is where I buy it:

PS: The dirty little secret the EnviroTards won't talk about is that this is not the kind of phosphate that causes environmental problems like eutrophication. But the facts be damned.
My first thought as well. The idiots worry about a tiny source of
mercury while ignoring a HUGE source because of their agenda, which has nothing to do with the environment. I suspect that the total amount of mercury vapor in all of those cfl bulbs in aggregate would be staggering if we knew.
I’ve about had it with this stupid tablet!
Sorry about the goofy line breaks.
“Sponsors say mercury exposure has been shown to impair brain development, with federal estimates suggesting 300,000 to 630,000 infants annually are born in the U.S. with mercury levels high enough to reduce intelligence.”
They should have contacted the Ultimate Data Manipulators, Jones-Hansen-Mann, who would have shown them how to present non-significant data in an apocalyptic manner. Data should have been presented as an estimated possible 30,000,000 defective infants born annually with probable autistic defects.
“I think every kid back in the day played with mercury.”
I played with it.
“Kids like me used to play with mercury because it had odd characteristics. Does that explain my sometimes irrelevant posts?”
No. Playing with mercury is cool.
However, be careful of rubbing elbows with politicians who display odd characteristics. :)
You can be sure someone related to someone in a position of power already has a business designed to capitalize on this law.
We dismantled my dad’s old lab equipment and amassed a film cannister of the stuff. We would play with it, throw it, lose beads in the shag carpet....I try to use it as an excuse for my behavior now.
Of course. They write laws to benefit themselves and their friends and allies.
You’ll take my old mercury fever thermometer out of my cold dead hands. This is absurd, considering how many people of my generation played with mercury as kids. It’s not a good metal, but it’s not deadly in small doses, either.
Maybe this explains algore. They could probably crack his noggin and mine it for enough mercury to make a bunch of squiggly bulbs.
They need the mercury for recycling into vaccine additives.
