Bronx native Ira Curry announced as one of two Mega Millions winners The Georgia resident, who grew up on 179 St., will rake in $120 million after taxes. Her sisters still live in the Bronx and are planning to move as quickly as possible.

A Bronx native will take the money after she won half of the $648 million Mega Millions jackpot — and her sisters back home say they’re going to run.

Georgia resident Ira Curry, 56, has come forward as one of the two winners who will take home a massive chunk of the lottery windfall.

So Ira Curry is from the Bronx but won the lottery in Georgia. Delightful. No state income tax for Gov. Cuomo on that lottery jackpot!

It's her sister that's in public housing. The winner is an insurance underwriter who, according to the pictures posted, appears to make a good living.

Yeah, she should have the civic duty to “give back” to her community...

I heard the ticket was sold from a small office building newsstand, which would tend to help back up your assertion.

"will rake in $120 million after taxes....Bronx native will take the money after she won half of the $648 million Mega Millions jackpot"

648/2 = 324

324 - 120 = 202

Could that be right?? 202 million in taxes??

that’s my thought....the way the math worked in the video it seems there were four winners, 648/4 =162 - .25 = 125

No.

She elected to take a cash payout, which is considerably less than the other option of a 30 year annuity.

Yep.

The government takes 62% or your ‘winnings’ as a ‘windfall profit’ tax.

Nice scam, if you can get away with it. (which they do)

True, but the 30 year annuity is before taxes, so overtime it’s going to be considerably less and may come close to the ‘cash’ payout she took.

Thats a little better. I’m so tired of treating uninsured people for free who smoke, drink, and have a nicer iphone than I do.

Yep, it’s a con game. You win the lottery but so does the state, the city, the feds, social security, Obamacare and whatever other leeches they can tag on to it. And don’t forget: This is after the state already rakes in a fortune in ticket sales. I mean the odds of winning are something like 200 million to one so you would think just on principle alone they would give the winner a break on the taxes, but noooo...Their rationale is “Well he or she will end up with millions anyway so let’s take as much as we possibly can and then some.” Oh yeah and BTW they just recently raised the odds of winning even higher. You use to have to pick out 6 winning numbers from numbers 1 to 54. Now they raised it from 1 to 74 so there will be less winners from now on.
