Missouri Bill Mandates Parents Report Gun Ownership to School Their Child Attends
The Missouri Torch ^ | December 9, 2013 | Duane Lester

A pre-filed bill in the Missouri Senate would require parents of a public school student to report to the school if they own a gun.

Senator Maria Chappelle-Nadal filed SB 549, which reads:

This act requires a parent or guardian to notify a school district, or the governing body of a private or charter school, that he or she owns a weapon within 30 days of enrolling the child in school or becoming the owner of a weapon. The written notification only needs to include the names of the parent and any child attending the school and the fact that the parent owns a weapon.

The good news is, if you have several children attending the same school, you only have to notify the school once. So there’s that.

This isn’t the first time Sen. Chappell-Nadal showed complete disregard for the privacy of Missourians. The bill is exactly like SB 124 from the 2013 General Assembly.

It went no where.

Shouldn’t ALL of the parents require every school teacher and administrators to answer this very same question?

Only has to give St. Louis to Illinois before it goes.

This could be a good thing for MO but it’s not what yer thinkin’ there Skippy!

The sponsor of this bill needs to be immediately recalled or voted out in the next election cycle as well as any co-sponsors. Then who ever votes for it will be put on notice they are going to be soon out of a job.

Just about everyone here (and probably in Missouri) know this bill doesn’t have a chance, including Ms. Nadal. She is just establishing her street creds with her liberal voters.

Much like the Hollywood types who spout the most outrageous Leftist statements - gotta stay in favor of the Liberal producers.

The kiddies will rat the parents out when they are threatened by the ‘counselor” and will be handed over to CPS.

Only after a meeting with a Social Worker will you be allowed to speak to your child, and only in the presence of said state employee.

Recommendations on the findings of that meeting with that Social Worker will determine whether you get to take you kid home that evening.

This is quite an over-reach. But on the bright side, this would certainly have the effect of getting conservative kids out of Leftist indoctrination centers. Let’s see if they try this at the local level where it may be possible politically in some Leftist municipalities.

How will this possibly fly in MO? The state has been turning red, and gun-favorable legislation has been overwhelmingly successful.

It won’t fly. It has less than a zero chance of ever even making it out of committee.

Again, law breakers and loony tunes won’t report their guns anyway so all they will have is a list of responsible citizens so they can disarm them at their whim.

Filing a bill is far from passing it. I doubt that this goes any further than it did in 2013. Republican legislature in both houses will not pass it.

People in rural towns will not do it. Plenty of gun grabbers in the big cities. This jerk and his ilk will no doubt keep trying.

Like EVERY other state, MO has liberal bastions called cities. In fact it has 3 liberal islands floating in a sea of red. The bill died a quick and ignominious death.
