Rather than bag fees or lost luggage, over 250 airline passengers at airports in Toronto and Hamilton received a Christmas miracle from WestJet.
WestJet, an airline based in Calgary (Canada), first set up a virtual Santa who asked various passengers what they wanted for Christmas via a live video feed. Ho, ho, ho! Santa belted out.
He would know each passengers name after the boarding passes were scanned at the kiosk, enabling him to surprise children and adults alike.
Some asked for toys, others for clothes, while one couple jokingly asked for a really big flat-screen TV. It was all good fun and resulted in some laughs.
And that was it or so they thought.
While the passengers flights were in the air, 175 WestJet volunteers ran out and frantically gathered the list of gifts the people had asked Santa for. As in, all of them.
Video at link.
Don’t ask Santa for socks and underwear.
Now that’s class...
I'd say "Props" but it's WestJet, so "Kudos" will have to do.
WestJet is based out of Calgary, the second biggest airline in Canada behind Air Canada. It is based on the Southwest Airline model.
Not that I do a lot of flying, but the last time I flew Air Canada was 1988. I only fly WestJet. Service, friendliness and price are all better than Air Canada IMO.
Wife and I flew WestJet from Chicago to Vancouver this past summer on our way to,Alaska.
We’ll run airline, service in the air was top notch, we’ll fly them again.
I set across from the founder and CEO (at the time) of WestJet, at one of the dinners of a GE get-together in Ireland, in 2002.
He’s a cool guy who started out as a bush pilot in western Canada. Needless to say, he had some interesting observations about how to run an airline.
Oh well played westjet, well played.
What a great promotional idea!
I bet the airline employees had a blast too!
I don’t understand the blue Santa suit though. Unless maybe that is the company’s corporate color?
cool when my gf asks what i want for Christmas i usually say a Mercedes. ya never know.
So cool.....why on earth does Santa wear blue in Canada? Is he really cold? Brrrr.
Maybe...but there is probably some kind of copyright on the red color Santa hats so as cannot be worn by some corp for promotional purposes. Plus I think their corp colors has some blue in it. :-) still well played.
Bttt
I know! I couldn’t help think about the guy who said socks and underwear. I honestly would have jokingly told Santa a new truck or a 2 week vacation to Marco Island or Captiva.
If an airline Santa ever asks me what I want, I’m going to say “to see Obama prosecuted for his crimes”.
LMAO. Genius.
Santa has worn MANY colors..and still does in parts of the world. We often sell antique postcards; Santas in colors other than red are very popular...’Twas before the time when popular art and media in the US started depicting him in only red.
We have seen examples of Santa dressed in purple, blue, green, pink, & brown. And, many are skinny...LOL!
This video was SO great...what a wonderful surprise and just a great move by the company to pass along the Christmas spirit to both their customers and employees.
Coca-Cola is responsible for the red color of Santa’s suit that you see now. Before their ads of the 30’s and 40’s Santa wore green, red, blue or especially purple.
This is Santa as envisioned by Thomas Nast back in 1881. He actually drew Santa for Harpers for years before that; and had him in red in the 1860's. But this is his most famous "Santa"..look familiar?
He was also responsible for the Republican Party being represented by an Elephant, by the way.
