I WANT TEXAS TO SECEDE FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. THERE IS NO PROOF WE CAN'T DO IT.

I know many on this site will look at this and think it is one more crackpot talking nonsense.. That may not be entirely wrong, but I am not a crackpot, and my attitude is shared by too many intelligent folks that are entirely fed-up with the direction we are going..

Texas is suffering from our own success.. We are attracting the disaffected millions, from failed governments around the country, to our state because of our business friendly atmosphere, low taxation, low costs, great weather, and great opportunities..

All of that would be fine, if the newcomers would leave their failed liberal political views behind, which they obviously won't do.. There may not be much time before we are overrun with morons with enough numbers to risk the future.. Secession may be the only solution, if it is a solution at all..

I seek your comments..

Looking at that map, we could take Colorado, North Carolinia, and Virginia back if a concerted effort were made.

“The law is what is forcefully presented and plausibly maintained.” Aaron Burr

Of course he was tried for treason, but acquitted because they couldn’t find anyone who would cut-off his ‘privy parts.’

Being borned and raised in God’s country (Oklahoma) not too far east of Amarillo, I have known many Texans who overcame their disabilities and went on to lead productive, happy lives.
Best of luck to all of you, but this talk about taking your ball and going home, hmmm.
You know what Colonel Travis said when he saw a whole passel of Mexicans running toward the Alamo?
“Did someone order concrete work?”

TX can not secede but it can split in 5 States.

This is absurd. No wonder people don’t take us seriously and don’t listen to Conservative ideas.

And ... NEVER EVER gonna happen.

“It’s easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.”

When those discouraging secession point to the fact that it is “illegal,” an Alinsky-type answer would be to make the opposition live up to their own standards. When the progressives start to abide by their own laws (which have been broken numerous times), maybe then we will think about the “illegality” of doing it. Until then, they can just go pound sand.

Yep. Pretty much. We're no longer a red state/blue state country but rather red rural/blue urban country. Texas is turning purple and then following every other purple state, it's going to turn blue. And when Texas follows Colorado, Virginia, Florida and all the other former "battleground" states to blue, we'll never see Republicans control anything other than the House.

Of course, I should never say "never". Eventually the money is going to run out and the free ride is going to end. What happens after this waits to be seen but it's going to be interesting, that's for sure!

Agreed. The cities are killing us.

Was it "legal" for the colonies to "secede" from England? When the time comes, we won't be looking for permission, cobber.

Thank you for saving me the trouble of stating the obvious, gunner.

Any people have the God given right to dissolve the political bands with a larger union if membership in that union proves detrimental to their pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness.

There’s a reason why gun control is being pushed as hard as it is. It really doesn’t matter whether it’s legal or illegal for Texas (or any other state) to secede from the nation, the fact is that the Federal gov. out weapons the people...which IS unconstitutional in my opinion since we’re supposed to have the right to protect ourselves from tyranny.

It would be interesting to see Texas try, and succede. It could be encouraging to others and for that reason alone it can’t and won’t be tolerated. Waco won’t hold a candle to what would become the entire state should she even try.

Arguably, Texas gave up the right to split into five states when it entered into the Compromise of 1850 and relinquished all claims to New Mexico, Colorado, etc., in return for $10 million.

Splitting into additional states is already addressed in Article IV, Section 3 of the U.S. Constitution anyway:

New states may be admitted by the Congress into this union; but no new states shall be formed or erected within the jurisdiction of any other state; nor any state be formed by the junction of two or more states, or parts of states, without the consent of the legislatures of the states concerned as well as of the Congress.

It's not absurd to think Texas can split into five states.

The U.S. Congress's Joint Resolution for Annexing Texas to the United States Approved March 1, 1845 gave Texas that permission.

Ha, I just had lunch at the Applebee’s in Highland Village. Roads are slushy and passable. I walk with Yaktracks on my boots, like little tire chains on your car, but on your boots. Picked them up at Bass Pro Shops in Grapevine yesterday.

But who would get the Alamo?

It's not federal property, though it's on the National Register of Historic Landmarks.

It may not even be state-property, though the state helps administer it.

I think it belongs to the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.

But that's just one of the many ownership tangles that secession might open up.

I'm open to suggestions.

I already have my piece of Texas - a small town named after my family, with a wonderful old family cemetery where I'm related in some way to everyone sleeping eternally in God's country.

I’m not bringing up the legal issue. It’s the emotional issue. If Texas splits into 5 states, who gets the Alamo?

No facts, BUT as one lonely Texas voter, I would vote to secede. I would also vote for Ted Cruz as President...of Texas, unless it was passed that the President must be a native born Texan, which I would vote for too.
