At this time of Thanksgiving, Im grateful for the U.S. military not just for the usual reason that it protects us from our foes but also because it has the potential to save us from ourselves.
As I make my rounds each day in the capital, chronicling our leaders plentiful foibles, failings, screw-ups, inanities, outrages and overall dysfunction, Im often asked if theres anything that could clean up the mess.
My usual answer is a shrug and an admission that theres no silver bullet. There are many possibilities campaign spending limits, term limits, nonpartisan primaries, nonpartisan redistricting, a third party but most arent politically or legally feasible, might not make much of a difference or, as with Harry Reids rewriting of Senate rules, have the potential to make things even worse.
But one change, over time, could reverse the problems that have built up over the past few decades: We should mandate military service for all Americans, men and women alike, when they turn 18. The idea is radical, unlikely and impractical but it just might work.
There is no better explanation for what has gone wrong in Washington in recent years than the tabulation done every two years of how many members of Congress served in the military....

I agree. And all feral yutes and gays should be placed at the front of the line to serve as infantry on the IED detection squads...
This is all about making war unpalatable. No politician would support a foreign adventure if drafted men and women would be thrown into combat against their win. It would be political suicide.
The draft is now a tool of Pacifists who want war to end forever (as if that is even possible).
Not until every Latte slurping metrosexual in his 20’s to 50’s get his shot at “ government service”.
Based on Milbank’s comment on Fox yesterday that Bashir had a valid point in spewing that filth about Sarah Palin, I’d say that even the pretense of considering anything Milbanks says is pointless. It has no merit whatsoever.
Back in '65 when I enlisted, D.I.'s were mean SOB's that I both respected and were in fear of.
I didn't realize at the time what political macjinations were in operation, I only knew I wanted to kill commies ... THAT was my post WW2 upbringing.
I accepted the abuse because I was a skinny little runt of a 17 yo and I SO badly wanted to be a man ... and I was pretty sure if I could get through this, I'd be a man.
That's how THIS skinny little kid thought anyway.
I was glad when my three years was up.
Fast forward and I understand the D.I.' s are not allowed to call you a faggot anymore, nor make you squirm with threats of a blanket party because of some alleged infraction ... I guess the platoon leader is not allowed to take you into the latrine and dry shave you, eh?
Probably can't call you a pussy neither ... cause one is standing next to you nor can he accuse you of having never been laid and THAT'S your problem
Y'see ... back in '65 ... even draftee's, though they had a rightly deserved attitude, still obeyed the figure of authority and were fine warriors ... pissed of sunsabitches, every one !
i'm not in touch with the military of today except for what I read here and I'm pretty sure anyone receiving a draft notice would probably bomb the recruiting office or some other radical response.
Especially an 18 year old that is making ton's of money selling dope.
It's not our father's Buick any more
No one in their right mind would serve one day in the military under this Kenyan Turd !
Along with John Kerry, Lindsey Graham, the late Jack Murtha, the late Teddy Kennedy, Tom Harkin and a raft of others....
I agree, just another elitist who actually is part of the problem in Washington.
We have a political class who somehow have morphed into a morbid, defacto nobility. Obama has helped created them with his divide and conquer Congressional deal baiting ( billions of dollars in fact)and defines those he has created with his corruption as the new bourgoisie from the leftist point of view. Obama seeks to destroy them in any way possible, and is destroying America in the process.
We need to turf the whole poisonous lot, at the ballot box, which is the mission of the Tea Party.
If not, then the military that Milbank so ironically praises, will have to execute a coup and run Obama, Milbank and his fellow would be nobles out of town, but that chance is slimmer as time goes by, as Obama secures his command with his synchophants in the command structure , who replace our men of war, as our allies around the world abandone us, for just cause.
I would openly encourage armed rebellion en masse in the youth of the day if the evil that is compulsory military service ever came back.
― Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
Forcing folks to serve in a military run by libturds and homos would not be helpful. Just more indoctrination.
Soon we will be challenged and measured by the winds of freedom. Its time for America to unite against these ba$tards....all of them. I hope Palin and Cruz can lead the way.
You’re never going to get the elites to agree to let their children be cannon fodder. Somebody else’s kid? No problem.
Wow! Nothing like re-instituting slavery to set things right!
What a stomach-turning PoS.
Based on Milbanks comment on Fox yesterday that Bashir had a valid point in spewing that filth about Sarah Palin,...+

I didn’t watch FNC yesterday and missed what Milbank said. Can you be a bit more specific as to what he said?
The correct approach, imo is required service in the military for every single citizen regardless of gender for a period of 2 years. No exemptions not for any reason whatever with the exception of a crippling physical or mental disability which absolutely prohibits serving in any capacity at all.
He was speaking on a program I don’t normally watch on Fox. My wife was watching and I was in the kitchen. I heard him say something to the effect that Bashir had a valid point in discussing the overuse connection with too much government and slavery, and then he went on to perfunctorily say Bashir’s comments weren’t proper.
He did all the right Democrat talking point things: First, regardless of the vileness of a Democrat’s attack (Bashir), there was something ‘valid’ about it. Second, having turned the discussion to Palin, push Bashir’s comments to the side with a token condemnation. IOW, he didn’t care about what Bashir said. The point is to condemn Palin.
