Wow. Procedure was and is, arrive, enter find and engage the shooters immediately.

From one of the comments:

This is correct. We long ago abandoned the tactical team work and stacking procedures when an active shooter is running around. This has been instituted on a national level. Its not a local thang..

1.) Find shooter, 2.)Stop shooter. 3.) Eat Donut.

That is the protocol. Much discussion has been vetted about the acceptable losses of officers lives, should the first or second officer go down, and, on a national level, especially when kids are involved. These are acceptable losses. The goal is to put pressure on and keep the shooters attention on us and not the kids. If the first wave should fail…the next ones gets as crack…etc. Either way, keep the shooters attention on us and never ending pressure, no more surround and negotiate.

The important thing is that he got to go home that night to his wife and kids.

PS - Cops have zero legal responsibility to protect or serve anybody except themselves.

That would require cops doing something that doesn’t raise revenue for the State.

Cops are good at writing reports and putting people in body bags. That’s about it.

That’s why everyone should be armed. Everybody wins that way and the cops just get to do what they are good at, writing reports and keeping tasers charged.

I can still remember how disgusted I was over the Columbine shootings. I think the cops were cowards. They just stayed outside for a long time while kids were being killed.

Seems like a repeat.

Their job used to be to protect and serve and that was why LEOs were so respected; they would protect US first. But now it is just CYA...

Methinks this was one of the reasons they didn't want any details coming out while the big push was on for gun control - wrecks the "What do you need guns for? We have the police to protect us!" meme the left throws in our faces.

Exactly. A great example of this was the Emcore shooting in Albuquerque, only a minute or two lapsed from the time the 911 call came in and every nearby unit swarmed the building.

A long time ago, men of honor and duty became police.

These days, too many cops are just unionized government employees, who just happen to carry a gun and badge as fashion accessories.

I live in Sandy Hook. There are usually only three to four cars on patrol in Newtown, which is about 60 square miles. One seems to have been there in about a minute and a half.

7 minutes is about the time it would have taken the State Troopers to get there lights and sirens.

When seconds count, the police are only minutes away....

No thanks. I will take care of business myself.

If the police come to help later, good on them.

So I guess the heroic police had absolutely nothing to do with stopping this tragedy.Just like a lot of other tragedies they’re never around to prevent. But yet our stupid, corrupt legislature and governor took the right to defend our selves right out of our hands and made us all potential victims.

From the time the first cop arrived to they entered the building is potentially 9 minutes. If that is true, the ban on 30 rd mags or “assault rifles” that they passed in CT would have made no difference, like Malloy and others claim.
