Upton to Limbaugh: Maybe you should have ‘checked in with us’ before criticizing House delay
The Daily Caller ^ | 11/16/2013 | Jeff Poor

Posted on 11/16/2013 6:53:21 PM PST by markomalley

One of the leading critics of Michigan Republican Rep. Fred Upton’s effort to delay the onset of certain provisions of Obamacare has been conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh.

“This would be a tone-deaf disaster if the Republican leadership lets Fred Upton ascend to the chairmanship of the House energy committee,” Limbaugh said on his radio show earlier this week. “This is exactly the kind of nannyism, statism, what have you, that was voted against and was defeated last week. No Republican complicit in nannyism, statism, can be rewarded this way.”

On Hugh Hewitt’s radio show on Friday night, Upton suggested Limbaugh check with him before launching into his criticism, pointing to the reactions from conservative groups and the media to dispute Limbaugh’s notion.

Partial transcript as follows:

HEWITT: OK, now you have tempted me into breaking my no first name rule, because I’m going to use two of them. So Fred, yesterday, Rush urged the House not to touch this, because it in essence, it’s throwing a lifeline to the President and saving a bill that’s collapsing, don’t get near it, don’t ruin the brand, go for full repeal. What’s your response to that?
UPTON: Well, a couple of things, and you know, it would have been nice if he had maybe checked in with us and gotten information. We had a lot of groups, Club for Growth and others endorse our bill. A couple of things — first of all, what do you say to those millions of people that are all of a sudden out of luck come January 1? That’s not what we ought to be doing. We ought to be thinking about those people. The other thing is I’m just looking at the headlines today, Hugh. And in The Wall Street Journal, I mean, these are headlines that are like war is over. ‘Obama Retreats On Health Rules,’ left to right, right underneath the banner. New York Times: ‘In A Reversal, Obama Moves To Avert The Cancellation Of Health Policies,’ and it’s got a pretty sour face in his picture right underneath it, right underneath the banner. USA Today: ‘Health Law Shakes Presidency,’ left to right. Washington Times: Same picture of the president, ‘The Obamacare Retreat.’ Washington Post: Picture of a — not very flattering pictures of the president, ‘Obama Offers a Insurance Fix,’ ‘And you know, that’s on me. I mean, we fumbled the rollout on this health care law.’
HEWITT: Yeah.
UPTON: We’ve done in a week’s time what a shutdown and everything else, where we didn’t have the numbers, let’s face it, to try and reverse the fix that we’re in.

As for why Upton put the delay at just a year, Upton said that was the best way to ensure it got passed.

“We wanted to pass it,” he said. “That was our objective. We wanted to provide some immediate relief to the people that were bitterly concerned about the prospects of their own plan. We thought a one year was good enough that we would not only keep most of the Republicans, and we did, but have a good chance of getting a number of Democrats as well, which we did. Remember, we won by more than 100 votes. Had we done a longer period, it might have been more of a showpiece than an actual piece that you could actually get done, and we wanted to, again, two days ago, before the president undercut us with what is in essence his executive order. We had more than 300 votes for this.”

Yes, he is a RINO.

Delaying this is a bad idea. Why would the GOP push this issue away until after 2014?

I think that is a good question.

Taking off their chains is not thinking about them Mr. Upyours?

Hello, Nanny State. "We ought to be thinking about those people who can't think (and act) for themselves." He's the same as liberal Dems, only in slightly milder form. These freaking power-hungry bastards in Congress and media need to be humbled. It will happen, eventually.

Rush is a blowhard. He effectively shot down the candidacies of everybody except Romney in the last election - and then I remember how he almost broke down in tears when he described Romney and his wife walking out together somewhere and how they looked like “such decent Americans” (sorry, Rush, Romney always looked and sounded like a plastic man with no values) - because it made him feel powerful to be able to do it.

Rush has never run for office, never held a job outside of media, and while he’s sometimes good, he’s just what any media person is: all about himself.

Why we have let Rush Limbaugh call the shots, I do not know. He’s almost never right, he thinks it’s all a joke, and in fact I think his “Operation Chaos” was actually indirectly responsible for bringing us Obama.

Reid isn’t even going to bring it to the Senate floor. It is dead.

Delaying it for a year does nothing. The same people will just get the same cancellation letters before the next "enrollment." Then you have the Employer cancellations coming, if Hussein doesn't decree that these letters must not go out first before the elections.

These policies just can't be walked back. The insurance companies have to comply by the law. I am just seething with rage at the Republicans. All they have to do is order Obama to repeal the law or implement it entirely. If Obama doesn't implement the law as required, then impeachment proceedings must take place.

Google Kate Upton and, to quote Paul Simon, “I believe in the morning you will begin to see the light.”

I’m sick of repubs bitching about Uptons bill - it effectively completely repeals Obamacare for 1 year (allowing everyone to buy non-Exchange plans), and is a bill that would stand a good chance of continually getting reupped as the law disintegrates. Plus, as Dems have been screaming, it will throw a wrench into the risk pool on the exchange, where all the sick would go and everyone heathy would avoid. As an added bonus it has the Dems screaming “Repubs should help us fix this” stuck trying to explain how this isn’t a fix despite many Dems, including the Pres, offering similar

The bill is freakin awesome and Repubs complaining are kind of doing exactly what Dems accuse them of - hating anything Obamacare related just because it’s Obamacare related

After one year all those plans then become illegal and all get cancelled again. Of course, getting those plans extended might not even be possible.

All it does is allow the Dems a pass for the next election

Obamacare: The Stool Sample Act

You have to pass it before you can see what’s in it.

My niece and her family had their insurance canceled. She thinks this fix is idiotic because their policy dies anyway. This short term thing really is not much of a help.

The Republican establishment is carrying the water for the big multinational corporations and Wall Street banks who want single payer federal government controlled medical care as fast as they can get it. It is all about money. The big corporations will save billions by eliminating the cost of employee health care premiums from their income statements.

McConnell, Boehner, Romney, Upton, and the rest are willing collaborators with the statist socialists.

What exactly has he done?

Nothing, and he's bragging about the number of votes it got.

And he's saying how much better he is than the shutdown.

And the cancellation notices will be sent out when?

...oh yeah, Aug-Oct - you know, just like this year. That means everyone would again be getting kicked right before Midterms, and Dems would again have the same prob they have today, just on steroids!

That is why I say it would likely get reupped, and likely for 2 years at that time, meaning Obamacare is effectively repealed until 2016 (and Obama would be desperately trying to keep the exchanges afloat, instead of us trying to do the opposite)
