If you were stranded in the wilderness, your supplies gone, and you were about to starve to death, could you kill your best friend? That's the heartbreaking dilemma one man faced when he found himself trapped in the Canadian wilderness with no food. At the beginning of his planned three month trek, Marco Lavoie, who was hiking with his best pal, his dog, had his camp rations and canoe destroyed by a bear. But his faithful pooch saved his life by chasing the bear off. He would be "rewarded" three days later by having his own life taken -- by his beloved owner.
Yeah...an act by a desperate man who could not see the spiritual world and only lived for the physical.
Think you’re a bit wrong on this.
The fact of the matter is that animals are on this earth for our benefit, not to consider their lives as greater than our own.
I’ll go far enough to say He is responsible to God for being grossly negligent and putting himself, and one of God’s creatures in a really bad situation. But the decision he made after already being in a desperate was the right one, that does not make it an easy one.
First of all, if the dog could run off a bear, I’d keep him around.
Second, the dog will keep you warm at night.
Third, the dog can chase down rabbits so you got something to eat.
He was lucking. He survived even after he killed the golden goose.
I am sure the man regrets having to do this and will the rest of his life. Don’t point fingers unless you have been in this man’s shoes. Seems everybody wants to play the blame game, even people that should know better.
He should have died instead, probably a stupid lib anyway.
No he should not. Only an idiot would value an animal over a human being.
He killed his dog and ate it after only 3 days?
Seriously??
Well, count me in with the idiots and morons...What ever name you chose is fine by me!
Oh, Bravo Sierra! Irrespective of the man having lost his supplies, or not being ready...he did have his dog, and it saved his life...twice.
The dog saved his life from the Bear (probably). Then the dog fulfilled his role again by saving his life from starvation.
I have had dogs all my life. One who was a faithful friend of our entire family (my iwfe, myself, and our five kids) for 17 1/2 years. I owuld hacve risked my life to save that dog in the right circumstances.
But, if it came down to that dog or one of my children, or that dog or my life (where I provide for my wife and kids), the dog would sacrifice its life to keep us alive.
Any talk about this being selfish or a betrayal are rediculous.
Gut wrenching? Yes. Betrayal, no.
Where does it say the dog was trained to do this?
I value my dog over, say, the Kenyan.
But, but that's what all the movies show. /s

‘Long pig’ before my cats... :-)
The rule of 3’s:
3 minutes without air
3 hours without shelter
3 days without water
3 weeks without food
Was he already starving when he went into the woods.
I agree.
Why didn’t the guy have a firearm or fishing rig?
Some people should just stay in the city.
Hot Dog!
The human body can survive three weeks without food. This guy went three days. I guess it’s hard when you’re used to stuffing your mouth with potato chips on the couch at the slightest signs of hunger.
Coupled with the fact that this guy obviously didn’t bring a gun with him into an area he was told was dangerous, I’m thinking this guy was a libbie out to “be one with nature.”
When push comes to shove, libs have no attachments or loyalties beyond saving themselves. That’s why you don’t want one watching your back.
