I saw a man on the news pulling a house down the street.
bloomy’s down
It’s not down. the link I posted broke in the middle. Try this:
Must be a hell of storm. We’ve had torrential rain here in Thailand for the last 24 hours, but that’s all - at least in my area.
I mean no disrespect but when I saw the headline all I could hear in my head was “ Down goes Frazier!”
On the phone now with SIL in Cavite, n/nw of Manila ...
Cat 1, expect to be hit at 10PM tonight (their time .. 730PM now, their time)
We've been trying to call since last night and we're surprised we got through now ...
Wife was listening to online radio from Leyte until they lost power. She called her parents at 4 a.m. their time and they said the wind was rising and a few trees were down and they were hunkered down. The main winds were sipposed to hit around 5. The radio said the big 370,000KV transmission lines from Luzon to Leyte and Samar are down so power will be very slow to return to the sticks where they live. She found a video of Tacloban with a fairly good flood going through town, but said that happens during most typhoons so they will be used to that. Now I guess we wait.
Salamat
Sorry for the delay..We lost power for about 4 hours this afternoon. I usually get ABS/CBN via my dish. But we have not been home. I am sure they are operating, as they are out of Manila. There are plenty of news feeds covering the typhoon.
I am a bit amazed that the typhoon was not more destructive in our area of Cebu. All is fine at my house. I did bicycle over there several times during the storm. There was one little stretch where I had a rough time with my bicycle into the wind. The surf did not get beyond the beach, but it was close to low tide, and the beach road is about eight feet above high tide.
REALLY appreciate your report, Al.
My ABS/CBN connection is re-running yesterdays’ (Nov 7 .. I guess almost two days ago for you) .. news
I am in North central Luzon. You are correct, the internet link has been off for awhile. I am watching news on their television network right now. Manila seems to be doing fine through the storm, although it was due catch a bit of it starting about two hours ago because of the storm strength, size and more intensity on the north east quadrant of Typhoons.
FWIW ABS/CBN/ANC isn’t showing any “horrible” destruction ,, nothing they could focus a news story on anyway,, mainly widespread power outages and comm breakdowns ,, lots of footage of people cleaning up with chainsaws and sleeping in air terminals. Northern Mindanao is OK (below AlexW) ,, I suspect the main power line might be down but the main problems associated with these storms ,,, widespread flooding ,, seems to be minimal as it moved through fast and didn’t seem to drop much rain. News commentators are already moving on to “social destruction” from storm ,, BS climate change stories and fisherman and such that cannot work and need assistance.
My SIL in Cavite is indicating nothing very serious .. a little rain and a hair breezy ... the storm is supposed to hit her around 10 ... another couple of hours ... you?
That aligns with what seems to be a less damaging report than what was expected.
By the way, we never lost cell coverage. All of the sites have battery and generator backup, and they are very rugged.
It would take a bomb to knock one out.
Anyway, I really expected a more severe storm, considering that we were in the big red circle of the radar images.
Rain was fairly normal.
I would have checked out ABS/CBN sat feed while at home, but power was out at that time. We had already paid for tonight at the hotel, so we are still here.
salamat, Al
