I saw a man on the news pulling a house down the street.
I mean no disrespect but when I saw the headline all I could hear in my head was “ Down goes Frazier!”
Wife was listening to online radio from Leyte until they lost power. She called her parents at 4 a.m. their time and they said the wind was rising and a few trees were down and they were hunkered down. The main winds were sipposed to hit around 5. The radio said the big 370,000KV transmission lines from Luzon to Leyte and Samar are down so power will be very slow to return to the sticks where they live. She found a video of Tacloban with a fairly good flood going through town, but said that happens during most typhoons so they will be used to that. Now I guess we wait.
Sorry for the delay..We lost power for about 4 hours this afternoon. I usually get ABS/CBN via my dish. But we have not been home. I am sure they are operating, as they are out of Manila. There are plenty of news feeds covering the typhoon.
I am a bit amazed that the typhoon was not more destructive in our area of Cebu. All is fine at my house. I did bicycle over there several times during the storm. There was one little stretch where I had a rough time with my bicycle into the wind. The surf did not get beyond the beach, but it was close to low tide, and the beach road is about eight feet above high tide.
I am in North central Luzon. You are correct, the internet link has been off for awhile. I am watching news on their television network right now. Manila seems to be doing fine through the storm, although it was due catch a bit of it starting about two hours ago because of the storm strength, size and more intensity on the north east quadrant of Typhoons.
I’m in Batangas City (2 hours south of Manila) and power is out at our home, but my USB Wimax connection still has 1 bar and I have about 50% battery left on my laptop. Better shut down for a while and preserve battery.
On the good side — storm doesn’t seem too bad at the moment. LOTS of rain and heavy winds, but I’ve seen no major flooding and everyone seems to be okay in our area.
You folks are incredible.
Prayers for your safety.
