The president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops is pressuring the House to act on immigration legislation before the end of the year, calling the issue a matter of great moral urgency that cannot wait.
Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the archbishop of New York, said in a letter to Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, on Thursday that he was troubled by reports that immigration reform is delayed in the House since lawmakers have a responsibility to resolve the issue.
As a moral matter
our nation cannot continue to receive the benefits of the work and contributions of undocumented immigrants without extending to them the protection of the law, Dolan wrote. Keeping these human beings as a permanent underclass of workers who are unable to assert their rights or enjoy the fruits of their labor is a stain on the soul of the nation.

Focus on abortion, idiot.
So, when shall he harangue Latin American countries on immigration?
archbishops ought not to do the lawless work of Satan
It’s moral urgency to not follow your nation’s laws?
The ‘moral’ argument over immigration always confuses me. If we’re morally obligated to take them in to our country and support them with our tax revenue, then we have an equally moral argument just to trot down into Mexico and unilaterally solve their problems there that drive the illegals up here.
I had that thought also.
Why go to Iraq and Afg. when we have such an urgent problem with Mexico that includes terrorists coming across the border?
Besides, Mexico has oil and beaches.
These leaders of the catholic church in the US are dead wrong on this issue. However, catholics vote for the democrat party a majority of the time. Maybe the leadership takes its lead from the members. Sad.
This is what happens when you put filling the pews over the rule of law. I’m tired of the whining from these bleeding heart types. How about demanding the governments of these peoples home countries do something for them besides dumping them on our doorstep Cardinal Dolan?
I am Catholic. I disagree with Cardinal Dolan. Illegal immigration will destroy this country and forever keep the evil democrats in power. It’s none of the Church’s business!
Caesar=Caesar___________God=God!!!!!!!
He's all yours, Catholics.
Here’s an idea, Timmy.....have Pope Francis sell all the treasures in the Vatican to the highest bidder, and use that money to support all the illegals in the U.S.....after they’re all moved back to Mexico, first.
With all due respect, Excellency, STHU.
The Democrats want amnesty for the votes. Businesses want it for the cheap labor. The Catholic church wants amnesty to resupply its membership. Liberals want amnesty because it will dilute the traditional American spirit. Some Republicans want amnesty because it will prove that they are not racist. And I can speculate that there is a lot of money flowing under the table. Nobody can say that it strengthens the nation.
Well, you aren’t going to get any more of my money to pay for all the new homeless, unemployed, Dem voters, either.
It’s MY moral imperative. It can’t wait any longer either.
I also require that the churches be turned into homeless Mexican centers. It’s a moral imperative.
Hey Dolan, this church-going Catholic says, “STFU.”

...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.
Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.
Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.
Lets start that conversation by acknowledging we arent going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.
If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...
This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.
Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.
