Since the government shutdown, you can't swing a dead cat without hitting some media member claiming Republicans are in a lot of trouble heading into next year's midterm elections.
Breaking with the trend rather surprisingly Wednesday was the perilously liberal Mother Jones with a piece titled "New Poll Shows Democratic Incumbents in Big Trouble."
The poll was actually from James Carville and Stan Greenberg's Democracy Corps and was titled "The Revolt Against Washington and the Republican Congress."
Despite Carville and Greenberg's conclusions, author Kevin Drum dug deeper into the specifics to find some contrary nuggets:
In Democratic districts, net incumbent approval has plummeted by 11 points, from +8 approval to +3 disapproval. In Republican districts, incumbent approval has gone down only 4 points. You see the same results when they ask a question about warmth of feeling toward incumbents: It's down 7 points in Republican districts and 9 points in Democratic districts.
This isn't good news for Democrats. It's true that attitudes toward the Republican Party have taken a bigger hit than attitudes toward the Democratic Party, but attitudes toward actual incumbents are exactly the opposite. And in elections, that's what matters.

The Dems will face a slaughter over Obamacare in next election, not only because of the lies but because they continue to lie flagrantly.
Hopefully we can get a veto proof majority out of it... doubtful, but it has happened before.
It most likely is. The Moderate Democrats are ignored and ostracized to the sidelines.
What does the GOP have to do with smaller government?
Hip, hip, hooray!
Well it depends on what GOP you are talking about. The vast majority of party GOP support smaller government. I can’t speak for the leadership and their funders.
I thought I was told it was unpatriotic and wrong to vote against DIMs/LIBs.
The GOP needs to make the 2014 elections a referendum on Obamacare similar to what happened in 2010. If the GOPe continues to push immigration reform, then all bets are off. Then it is time to go on suicide watch.
But ! But ! But ! but, but, but, but, we were told that the Republicans where going to get hurt big time from the government shut down in 2016 from both forked tongued hoots from both sides ! both Democrats and Republicans said so !! .... healthy dose of ouhhhh rahhhhh sarcasm.
Liz Cheney is a better candidate than Enzi—more conservative. Regardless, whomever is nominated will win the seat.
These polls are ignoring the elephant in the room. The big downturn in Republican numbers is from conservatives.
Every time the establishment attacks us or snuggles the dems with hugs and wet kisses more conservatives break ranks.
If we did a Free Republic poll on the popularity of the Republican Party I am sure they are about as popular as a case of the crabs right now.
So these polls really are not reflective of how people will vote. I for one have not been this optimistic of an upcoming election in decades.
The fact that the establishment has lost a large part of the conservative base is why the numbers are where they are.
Ahhhh yes.... Tokyo Rove..... I am sick of him up past my eyebrows. He has openly SCREACHED his disgust with anyone Tea Party. Fox gives him air time, sickening. I’d like to tell him and the GOPe where to stick that white board.
I think that Lanegon’s loss in NJ Senate last week was due to total lack of any GOP backing..... so let’s see. Rove and company prefer a Dem in that seat rather than an R???? What about Cucinelli? same?
I called the RNC office and politely told them to pound sand with Rove and their total didsain of Tea Party candidates. I said I WAS Republican AND Tea Party and was disgusted with the GOP’s message or lack thereof. Others may want to do the same.

They can’t repeal Obamacare while Obama or any other Dem is in the WH.
a) Demonrats won't get out of bed to vote in midterm elections. Never have, never will.
b) The Magic Negro isn't running. A big chunk of the Demonrat voter base have no reason to vote or care who wins.
c) The odds of O’bastard getting amnesty passed before 2014 fell to 0-1 with the shutdown and owebamacare crash and burn. Lots of angry Hispanics/illegals/dreamers/illegals.
Its true the GOP has not capitalized on the negative sentiment towards big government enough. The Peter Kings and the John Mcains and such have made it impossible to have a unified limited government message. However it still doesn’t change the fact that the Democrats are going to pay a big price for Obamacare. They didn’t tell little lies, they perpetuated what is very probably the biggest farce on the American people in recent history.
Yes that is true but they will pay if they don’t continue to try or god forbid they try to compromise.
Waiting for the rat on rat carnage to begin, particularly against leadership Reid and Pelosi.
Rots of ruck, George.
Bias media to soften the negative impact by changing from "approval" to "disapproval" to avoid the negative sign.
