Washington Post columnist George Will said he wants Obamacare to fail, pointing the impossibility of controlling one-sixth of the economy with central planning after his co-panelist Juan Williams declared Republicans did not want the law to work.
Williams accused Will and his other co-panelists on this weekends Fox News Sunday during the shows online-only Panel Plus segment of schadenfreude in voicing their reactions to the failure the HealthCare.gov launch.
[Y]ou know, I just think there is a lot of schadenfreude on the panel this morning, Williams said. And people, Oh yeah, you know, isnt it terrible oh my gosh, Obamacare is having trouble. Come on, Republicans dont want this thing to work. Thats the bottom line here. Thats the reality here.
Later, Will predicted the demise of Obamacare and said he wanted the law to fail for fear of how it will further change Washington, D.C. as the central focus of power in the United States.
Oh, it will end, Will said. Because in fact what theyre trying to do is micromanage one-sixth of the American economy. What we have learned throughout the 20th century is in fact the micromanagement, central planning of complex societies doesnt work.
I want to assure brother Williams that there is no schadenfreude because Im not even pretending to be sorrowful, Will continued. Of course I want Obamacare to fail, because if it doesnt fail, it will just further entangle American society with a government that is not up to this. For 100 years, Juan, the narratives of progressives from Woodrow Wilson on, is that progress will come if and only if we concentrate more and more power in Washington, more and more Washington power in the executive branch and more executive power in the hands of experts disinterested experts such as those who designed HealthCare.gov.
George Will is often irritating, but when he does speak sense, he’s worth listening to.
If you wanted a brief two minutes of Jefferson-like analysis and observation....George Will is about the best there is in the nation today.
On occasion, he’ll even pick up baseball, and for a few minutes....you actually get some common sense and true views on the sport.
On the topic of failure for Obamacare....I don’t think we can even refer to it as a failure. It simply introduced economic reality to the American voter and consumer. If you want steaks for everyone....then the overall price of steaks will reflect that desire, and climb higher. The American voter was naive to think that prices and cost for health care would simply remain the same or even cheapen.
What happens in 2016? The economy will not only be stagnant, but also viewing a public who has $2k-to-$4k less a year to spend on themselves....spending it on health costs instead. They will desire a return to the old method. The Democratic answer will be the single-payer solution. The issue is that they bought a dead horse strategy in 2009....why repeat that same trend?
Damn right I want it to fail and everything else Progressive. It has no place in our republic.
I love it when someone with a little sense slaps that little weasel Williams down.
Juan is just a stupid guy with a marxist education.
With all the shorthair singing he’s been getting from conservatives lately, George had to go to the High Council on Liberal Talking Points and Media Matters to get special dispensation as a token conservative to say this to protect his title among those imbeciles out there that still think he is conservative.
Juan Williams is no different than the typical Negro who shuts their mind to what is right and only think of his racial make-up.
He wants so badly for Obama to be a black hero, because blacks so badly need a hero, but he has hitched his wagon to the wrong star and cannot admit it because that would be saying that a black failed.
Juan is a bigot. A friendly acting bigot, but a bigot.
I haven’t watched the news since 11/7/12 bit always perceived Juan as the “token idiot” to defend liberals.
I love it when Juan gets a size 12 planted right in the qwack of his patootle.
You haven't missed anything, except a lot of lies. You are correct about Juan.
That was the last time I watched the news too.
An example of the decline of America, paying this black huckster 2 million dollars a year to spew racist, anti American Bilge
Well, finally George abandoned his typically mealy mouthing and directly addressed the issue of creeping socialism in America. George did not sound like David Brooks, Kathleen Parker, and Charles Krauthammer. He sounded like a conservative. Again.
I love it when George Will says something with just the right amount of humor-sarcasm to get the point across. It's time we stopped pandering. Obamacare is a bad plan, supervised by someone probably intellectually incapable of identifing flawed things, and pursued because nobody will disagree with Obama.
EVERY DAY that mandate is in place does more harm to the economy. It punishes responsible people who've had insurance policies of their choice for years, but now won't have that if they get sick. It's costing people jobs. It's decimating their budgets. That stupid beyond belief medical device tax destroys US jobs at a time when US jobs should be the top priority.
I don't see how the dems and the RINOs who see profit in this mess can with any conscience at all not condemn this destruction of medical care and the middle class.
I agree George Will has always annoyed me, but the last week or so he has said things that were point on. I heard him speaking on the online panel to Brett Baire and he was talking about Chicago Politics that governs the WH. He was spot on in his description of the thuggery.
My ears perk up and I listen when one of three “Pundits” talk. They are Charles Krauthamer, George Will and Brit Hume. I realize they all work for FOX now, but maybe that’s because FOX is smarter than all the other networks.
Cut Juan some slack. He gets paid the big bucks by Fox to promote the Democrat talking points. I am not sure he really believes much of what he says.
Grow up, Juan--wishful thinking has no impact on whether something will work or not. Republicans cannot make Obamacare fail, and Democrats cannot make it work by emotionally investing in their position.
Good for George Will. I am sick and tired of hearing this talking point “the Republicans want Obamacare to fail.” So we’re supposed to help out with the implementation of Socialized Central Planning just because the Democrats barely managed to pass it a few years ago without a single one of our votes?
Why aren’t we countering with the now crystal-clear fact that the Democrats want America to fail?
