Santorum: Cruz Did More Harm than Good
National Review ^ | October 27, 2013 | Patrick Brennan

Posted on 10/28/2013 12:58:44 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

Former senator Rick Santorum offered qualified praise for Senator Ted Cruz this morning, but said the freshman’s effort to force defunding of Obamacare ultimately did “more harm” than good. Santorum said this wasn’t Cruz’s “objective,” which he called “a laudable one,” but he criticized the senator for having no plan to get to his goal of defeating Obamacare.

Meet the Press host David Gregory asked him whether he thought Cruz could be considered “the face of the Republican party,” and Santorum said Cruz is “a face” of the party but not the leader, noting that parties out of the White House often have such a debate over leadership.

...and what Santorum will learn is that running against Cruz is hopeless...and by that, I mean trying to trash Cruz is not the way to show that you are the best person to roll back the Obama agenda.

The 2016 election, assuming we win 14, is going to be about one thing and one thing only: rolling back Obama’s devastation. Attacking Ted Cruz, or any Republican, is not going to help with that message.

Santorum sounds like he’s positioning himself for another run at the White House ...

Good grief, I sure hope not. Once was enough for this whiny sweatervest-wearing moderate friend of Arlen.

Oh

Nice respecful way to answer an honest questioner
I was not trytng to revise history, only to revisit it and remember a not insignificant Santorum bloc of primary victories (3 in one day as I recall)

But not going to go back and discuss it with a sarcastic disrespectful poster

Newt demonstrated himself as a “viable challenger” by his track record in the GOP primaries, and Romney stamped himself as a loser too by his weak wins in his own GOP primaries. Santorum did not cause the annointed Mitt to lose. Mitt’s weak demeanor and his minority religious beliefs stunk on ice even to over half of his party and a nation desperate to get rid of Obama, who stayed home rather than vote for Mitt.

This is all over your head. You count each primary as the same, when clearly there are those that are not. Primaries that have tiny populations, are too late in the process, or have weird rules are the only kinds Santorum won. He never won a major primary with a large population.

Yes, he played that numbers game very wisely, and it fooled you and some others...but he was never viable for anything other than second place.....

Your hatred of Newt blinds you to the fact that he was the only candidate who ran a campaign that had a chance of beating Obama.....at two different times during the campaign. One was early in Iowa, and then he was mercilessly attacked by all six others....and the other was the entire SC week and the first day in Florida. When he did that, he was crushing everyone else.

So the point is not newt...the point is how to win, and Santorum never did, never will, and never can carry that water.

ya don’t get to go for the popular vote unless you can win the primaries and get the delegates and get the nomination

Too bad

Newt the serial monogamist was quite entertaining in the debate throwdowns but as was shown at the ballot box, he had a snowballs chance in he11 of becoming a presidential candidate, except maybe president of South Carolina

I think the experts here need to go update the wiki page about Newt’s sweep of the popular vote because it do not show up here

Newt was the only candidate with a chance against the Obama machine, but he was back stabbed by the likes of ann coulter et al. Very similar to what is happening to Cruz right now. Et tu brute.

so now I “hate Newt”

geez. He was an election loser. Factually.

back in 2012 you were probably clamoring for Santorum - who was winning primaries - to drop out

then Newt would win those tiny insignificant primaries and roar like a lion into the big ones and maybe become...
Romneys VP

As if the Mormons would have let a moral quagmire like Newt Gingrich onto their squeaky clean mild mannered hero’s ticket

Santorum is making noise. That means he is going to try again in 2016.

Retreads Santorum, Perry, possibly Gingrich, will likely show up in the primaries.

[They will probably end their campaigns with less success than they had in 2012.]

You would have been one of the panty waisted brits against Churchill too......

RS has many quagmires too....but since no one really cares about him, no one knows them.

The only reason you know anything about Newt’s is because he has changed history and he matters. Ricky never has and never will....not to that degree.

No more of my pearls before your swine thinking.....bye

The huge difference betwen Newts support and RS support...is that ALL of Newts supporters are welll aware of his failings in the past....but they also know he was the ONLY ONE RUNNING who can turn a liberal or moderate into a Republican voter WITH ONE ANSWER.

RS supporters are stil suprised at this today, even tho his history is full of such moments - but as an irrelevant, no one knows it.

Newt is Rembrant....flaws and all.....Rick is paint by numbers in comparison. ABILTY MATTERS.

Santorum is concerned with legislative strategy all the while the country goes down the crapper.
