There was little chance of defeat, when Aledos undefeated Bearcats faced Fort Worths Western Hills on the football field Friday.
The final score, 91-0, though, led one parent to file an official complaint of bullying against the entire coaching staff.
Aledo ISD administrators say the complaint suggests the coaches should have told players to take it easy on the competition. I would never ask our kids not to play hard, said Aledo football coach Tim Buchanan. I would never tell them, Go out and let them score. Thats not what you want to teach kids.

Apparently teaching them good sportsmanship did not occur to them
Running up the score used to be consider to be in very poor taste
When you are that far ahead, you don’t lay down, but you kill the clock and do it very obvious way so that even your OPPONENTS see you are being honorable.
Instead these morons hoot and holler when they go up 91 points, instead of only 84
1926 Haven High School Football Team defeated Sylvia 256-0.
...well, what else can be expected when you’re playing against a girl named Sylvia...
...we better get used to it...with the gender equity bunch in control of the public schools, and influencing cultural policy, this sort of thing will be targeted for their pet project...eliminating football altogether, and competing only in sports that can field both male and female teams...
There are things that the Aledo coach could and should have done in such a game, such as emptying his bench and playing kids who usually don’t get to play and making conservative play calls. If he did this, I don’t see a problem. Even if he didn’t and he kept the starters in and ran up the score, I don’t see any basis for disciplinary action; he would just be a jerk.
Bad as it was, if the Aledo coaches kept putting in 2nd and 3rd string, there isn’t anything more to do except for the other team to get better. It would be wrong for Aledo to hold back from playing their best. As for the mom, shut up. She is embarrassing and if I had ever done that, my son would not be talking to me.
One parent filing complaint?
The parent of what, football player on the losing team?
Yo, ‘parent’, tell you kid to play soccer and make sure it is 0 - 0 tie, to preserve your precious child’s fragile psychic.
If the parent wants to see “bullying” wait until he/she sees the ridicule he/she has now opened the entire team up to, for the rest of the season, and beyond, with the ridiculous, pansy “bullying” complaint.
You can lose 91-0 and still hold your heads high if gave your best effort and took your defeat like men. The real embarassment and shame is in crying, “It’s no fair, they bullied us, by playing so much better than us!”
If it starts being expected, it stops being a nice thing to do. No wonder these whining parents have turned out a bunch of losers.
In a losing effort last Saturday, my son was in more plays than previous games. Something happened in the 3rd quarter that caused him to play with a fire I hadn't seen before.
He was blocking a kid that was 30-40 lbs heavier, and held his blocks until the whistle sounded. His opponent took umbrage at that, and delivered a cheap shot.
My son was pulled for one play. When two assistant coaches saw him coming out, they went to the head coach, saying "get him back in there! We need that fire!" LOL
In the 4th quarter, he laid on a sweet block that broke his halfback for a 60 yard touchdown.
The boys on our team never quit...that's the important thing.
Aledo is a power house that was put in a weak division. The time of possession was like 12 minutes!
The coach had second and third string in by 2nd qtr.
the 3rd string was scoring off of first play on runs only, like 60 yd runs.
Not much he could do that wouldn’t embarrass the other team. Kick 50 yd field goals?
The coach of Aledo is begging them to put them in a tougher division, but will never ask his team to not score.
Btw, western hills ran up scores of over 50-0 on more than one occasion last year.
It’s Texas football, the best players in the nation come from here.
When you are that far ahead, you dont lay down, but you kill the clock and do it very obvious way so that even your OPPONENTS see you are being honorable.
Instead these morons hoot and holler when they go up 91 points, instead of only 84
...I seem to recall that the article mentions the victorious coach attempting to limit his scoring chances...and I don’t recall the article mentioning that the winners were hooting and hollering...
Remove the fluff, the ads, and the egocentric banter and you have about 3 minutes of news in a half hour. And some of that is weather.
He did. They did. Scrubs like to score too.
Agreed...
My mom is a proud Texan; I don't think I'll tell her where this story happened, it would break her heart.
If you are losing that badly at least get some penalties to show you’re tough. Obviously, not nearly enough biting and gouging going on. ;o)
BTW, why so many snide remarks about soccer? If you’ve never played, you have no idea what you’re talking about.
On ‘Three and a Half Men”, Jake was on a soccer team. (I believe it was soccer...) At any rate, the leaders of the program had decided not to keep score, so the kids wouldn’t be “damaged for life”.
Alan, Jake’s dad comforted him when they came home after Jake’s team clearly did worse.
Alan said something to the effect, “Don’t worry, nobody lost. You all won.” Jake took a look at him and said, “Yeah sure. It was 10 to zip, and we got the crap kicked out of us!”
The loser parents that play into this nonsense are essentially doing it just for themselves and their loser kids, who truly don’t realize how badly they got whipped.
The realists are going to eat them for lunch the rest of their lives.
There's a case to be made for states like FL, IL, PA, and CA. However, there's no place better than Dallas-Ft. Worth for Friday Night Lights. There are close to 10 teams that are ranked in various nationwide top 100's, and the pageantry is equally special.
You'll find numerous marching bands numbering from 300-600 students, and drill teams that number into the 60's.
I know, you have to live in Texas to understand it. LOL
Then [Cronkite’s voice] that’s the way it is.
I apologize if I was wrong! I remember one game with video of a tem jumping up and down after ANOTHER touchdown....
