Humans are the enemy! A new study published in Ecology and Society claims that longer life expectancy for us is bad news for the planet. From the study by Aaron Lotz and Craig R. Allen:
We found a positive relationship between life expectancy and the percentage of endangered and invasive species in a country The overall trend in high-income countries with improvements to the Human Development Index, which includes human life expectancy as one of its variables, is toward a disproportionately larger negative impact on a countrys ecological footprint. However, some lower-income countries have a high level of development without a high impact on ecosystem services (Moran et al. 2008).
Increased life expectancy means that people live longer and affect the planet longer; each year is another year of carbon footprint, ecological footprint, use of natural resources, etc. The magnitude of this impact is increased as more people live longer.
Bad humans! Bad, bad humans.
The answer is supposedlyits becoming a clichéthat we see ourselves as just part of nature:
Fischer et al. (2012) propose a transformation strategy that assumes that direct links between people and nature are better than indirect links. This paradigm shift would recouple the social-ecological system.
Wrong. We are the exceptional species. The environment benefits most when we see that it is our duty to manage the environment responsibly because we are human. If we redefine ourselves as just another animal in the forest, thats just how we will act.
The authors dont say whether we should try and live shorter lives. But that certainly seems an implication.
I’m only 5’-8’.
Let the true believers ‘live shorter.’
Well... as long as we keep aborting babies and having wars, then those of us still alive deserve to have long life spans.
If we could have some large scale disaster or event (comet strike) , then the survivors could live forever and not harm the planet.
You go first.
Not voluntarily
It’s good advice for Liberals.
Assuming the planet needs and could be “saved”, living shorter won’t make much difference. Low populations tend to lead to population explosions like after the black death wiping out much of the world.
This should be an argument for the greenies to oppose immigration, but of course, like the feminists, their first allegiance is to the liberal plantation.
I’m only 5’2”, but I drive a big sport ute to make up the difference in my carbon footprint.
I’m all for any Libtard that wants to exit NOW to save the planet...
That is the one thing that would save SS and medicare.
Back in the 1990s on this Week ABC George Will debated Sam Donaldson on the new smoking laws.
Clinton was claiming that smoking cost billions of $$$ in medical tax $$$, \
George Will counters with “Where will all the $$$ come from to pay them SS and medicare all those extra years they will live if they give up smoking?”
Sam replies “WE will find it someplace” (taxpayers)
I know, I am blowing the theme of this , bad SOL LOL.
Logan’s run?
“All 30 yr olds please report to carousel”
hehe Drive on!
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
Just tell the Left-wingers who believe this stuff that the trick isn’t to shorten everyone’s life, but to extinguish the lives of those peoples who contribute nothing to society.
All liberals may now jump off the cliff to save the planet!..thank you libs!
I offer them a knife and remind them that it is "Down the street not across the road."
Have yet to have one take me up on my offer. How odd.
