For the last few weeks, House Speaker John Boehner has been trying to find a way to convince his caucus to vote for a bill that keeps the government open after Sept. 30 without picking a fight over Obamacare. But a minority of his caucus has been insisting on defunding Obamacare, egged on by outside conservative groups and a handful of far-right Republican Senators, most importantly Ted Cruz (Texas). This has been pretty annoying for a lot of House Republican members and staff. Jonathan Strong and Andrew Stiles of National Review got an anecdote out of a closed Republican Study Committee meeting yesterday:
Max Pappas, an aide to Texas senator Ted Cruz who was on hand, rose to argue that in the event the House and President Obama were at odds when government funding expired, Republicans could pass a bill to fund the troops and other core priorities. At that point, a woman rose, identifying herself as a staffer to a Texas Republican. Pappas, she said, was not dealing in reality and making everyone elses life difficult. The staffer, whom two GOP sources identified as working for Representative John Culberson of Texas, went on to decry Cruz for holding events in Culbersons district and telling his constituents that defunding Obamacare would be easy.
This is a key aspect of the Cruz-driven defund Obamacare push. With in the Senate, Cruz is essentially irrelevant. Any budget deal that comes out of there will be struck between majority Democrats and a number of more practically-minded Republicans, like Sen. John McCain (Ariz.). [ROFLOL!]

So far, not only have I agreed with every single position Cruz has ever taken, but his candid “the emperor has no clothes” way of putting it is causing a lot of elected politicians, regardless of party to note that their hair is on fire.
This should not be anything special. But in today’s world he may be a bit like the lead character in Idiocracy.
...more practically-minded Republicans, like Sen. John McCain...
I support Ted Cruz 100%. He is a tireless warrior for American principles, ideals and morals, and he is highly intelligent. See post #8 for a great picture.
If he’s making them “miserable”, then he’s doing something right! :)
I read that he was a FReeper...if he is, then “hi, Cruz Missile”! ~~~waving~~~
This man needs our support - the pressure on him will only get worse.
Since the MSM—newspapers—aren’t doing their job,
Ted Cruz: Comforting the afflicted and afflicting the comfortable.
Yeah baby!
...egged on by outside conservative groups...
"Outside" what, precisely?
Good! Most of congress sits on its collective ass and does nothing productive. They get a big check, attend parties and travel around the world at taxpayer expense. Those bums need to be uncomfortable. It appears their main misery is that they are anxious that they might lose their positions of power and influence (and the money that goes along with it). I hope they become so miserable they quit.
He’s over the target.
Keep gumming up the works Ted, keep kicking those House Reps in the @$$
Senator Cruz really needs us to get behind him. Over the years there has been a very deep division between Republicans and Conservatives, and someone- somehow will come along and rip the two groups apart so that the moderate always end up winning.
I pray that there will be a movement around the country of PEOPLE and CITIZENS who will support Senator Cruz.
There really is no more Democrat or Republican anymore. Everyone should be listening to Cruz.
He is the guy talking about America. Everyone else is out for themselves.
God bless him.
The A team.
I like that. Palin / Cruz - the A team.
The MSM is out to destroy Cruz already.
Heard a pundit yesterday refer to Ted Cruz as ‘Canadian by way of Texas’.
Obvious attempt to ruin his running for the Big One.
Here’s my answer to Josh Barro: KILL OBAMACARE!!! Sign/Endorse the Lee/Cruz defundobamacare petition, TODAY!!! WWW.DONTFUNDOBAMACARE.COM!!! And.....Senator Ted Cruz ROCKS!!!
Those two statements rang out to me. Both statements mean go with the Democrats as opposing them would be hard and it's practical not to cause trouble.
I looked up the district of Republican Representative John Culberson of Texas, and it's the west part of Harris County.
He was in the Texas legislature for six terms. If he loudly talks against Cruz in his district, he may have no job the next time he runs as Cruz is now the standard for determining who gets your vote for congress. The west part of Harris County is not downtown liberal country.
Josh Barro is the pond slime who got John Derbyshire fired.
practically-minded Republicans, like Sen. John McCain (Ariz.). Now we are assuming he has a brain.”
McCain is a slow motion disaster for conservatives, something like Chinese water torture. Cruz, conversely, will prove to be a very short-fused weapon of conservative self destruction.
Using budget gimmicks to “force” the left to make an about face on the ACA will not succeed; indeed it will be a spectacular failure. Please, do not go down this path again.
The GOP is in decent shape to make meaningful gains in the Senate and maybe the House in 2014. Regaining control of Capitol Hill is the only way to overturn ObamaCare. Don’t blow our only chance to stop this train wreck pursuing political theatre that will feel good for about 30 seconds before the stage collapses around us.
Cruz is an ambitious man. He advances his political fortunes in this battle, win or lose. Be wary of following an ambitious and careless man.
