Some Pittsburghers are being ticketed or warned not to park in their own driveways under an obscure ordinance that requires them to pay $225 for a permit if they wish to park within 30 feet of a street.
Some residents have complained about the tickets and warnings, which are issued by the city’s Bureau of Building Inspection.

Indeed. The city is caught in the middle between the city and the citizens. It's a shame, but what can you do?
Touted to us as an example of a Democrat run city that really works - yeah right!
The bureau doesn’t issue tickets unless residents complain and, often, those complaints aren’t prompted by people who park in driveways but by those who create cement or gravel parking pads in front of their homes.
And the real story comes out. It always does when you read. I can just imagine the mess they make and obviously the neighbors who pay a mortgage and property taxes don’t want to see a bunch of cars next door.
What about Driving on parkways?..............
Can’t judicial revue negate the rule ?
If one could find a Judge inclined to rule against the entity that pays his/her salary, yes.

By and large I have no sympathy for them; they keep voting this type of crap in, over and over and over...
In my town we have people who literally park on the sidewalk in front of their house, no created cement or gravel pads, just the sidewalk, it is a site to see.
It seems to me that someone should be allowed to park in his/her own driveway or on their own property without getting a ticket. They ALSO pay property taxes and might have mortgages. What do you think should be the limit on the number of cars that can be parked next door? How should this be enforced?
how I feel about this depends on what were the rules when these people bought these homes?
If they bought the homes after such a law was passed then it’s fine.
However if they bought their homes then then this law was passed, that’s a whole other matter.
I personally HATE people who park in their driveways. Nothing trashes up a neighborhood more than people who park in their driveways and/or the street. Especially when they have a perfectly good garage, but can’t use because they have filled it will a bunch of crap.
Nothing screams bad neighborhood quite like cars parked in the driveways. Always drive through any neighborhood your thinking of moving to after 5pm to ensure it’s not that kind of neighborhood.
I tend to agree but I’m guessing the anti rat voters are outnumbered by the feral urbanites who only drive a car when they carjack one.

Parking in a driveway makes a neighborhood “trashy”? So if you have a home with no garage, and you own more than one car, or maybe the garage is a workshop, then it’s a sign of a bad neighborhood?
Are you kidding? And you have the gall to call yourself a freeper? You're certainly NOT a conservative. You sound more like a pompous, elitist snob! I bet you just cringe at play/swing sets in the backyard. How about fences....do you hate those too?
Don’t these people have a garage for their cars?
We have a HOA rule that residents cannot park on the street in front of their home nor can any cars remain on the street overnight. Primary reason is that our street simply is not wide enough for fire or emergency vehicles if cars are parked there. But it isn’t policed except by other neighbors.
The family at the end of the street did have a fire a couple of years ago during the early hours of the morning and one of the chronic rule breakers had parked their cars on the street, not in their very long driveway or garage. The fire trucks had to wait until the street was cleared and the homeowners suffered additional damage to their home because of the delay. Their homeowners insurance company did file a suit against the street parkers and did win.
You don’t own your property. You are just allowed to use it while the government says you can, and how the government says you can. But you pay for it, and the taxes too.

So 2 more to park on the street. Well, a Neighborhood Watch lady took offense to my 56 Chevy being parked on “Her Street” and began calling the police, stating it hadn't been moved in 24 hours(the law).
It was getting so ridiculous that I was having to photograph my truck everytime I moved it for evidence.
The police were knocking on the door every day!
I had just instructed the family to start recording evidence of each police visit to see if we could go after a Harrasment offence, when the police came out three times in one day.
That was it! I put the word out to tell that so&so to cut it out!
No more problems, except sometimes we still get the occasional ticket for blocking the sidewalk.
Ain't civilization grand?
