There was a moment Friday when the leader of the free world explained the awe and sympathy his job provokes among colleagues.
At the end of a Group of 20 summit in Russia, President Obama recounted a recent conversation he had had with another head of state, as the question of whether the United States would soon attack Syria loomed over the gathering.
Im a small country, and nobody expects me to do anything about chemical weapons around the world, Obama quoted his fellow leader as saying. They know I have no capacity to do something, and its tough because people do look to the United States.
Then, shifting to his own voice, Obama said: And the question for the American people is, Is that a responsibility that were willing to bear?
At the heart of Obamas parable about the burdens of power is the reason why a second-term president has suddenly turned to an unpredictable, unruly and often-hostile Congress for a decision on war.
He wants an answer to his question: What, after nearly a dozen years of war, is the country willing to bear? Obama appears willing, so far, to risk a severe setback to his presidential prestige to get an answer, even if it turns out to be as seems quite possible that the country will not support even a limited military intervention in Syrias civil war.

Good post. I don’t believe Obama. He makes up stories and anecdotes all the time. Heck, he told people he and his mom went from Hawaii to the Continental US to ride Greyhound or something.
Simply stared Mr. Obama, you've squandered all of the trust and prestige that your office automatically carries with it. You're a proven liar so why should I believe anything you're telling me now? America's credibility is at stake? Really? No it is not, damn you to hell.
This son of a bitch just may get us all killed before it's over
Indeed!
LOL!
Like his composite non-existent girlfriend in college. His reality is bad enough.
It's like watching a child lying to cover up for his lies!
I thought this whole thing was his idea.
Yup his idea but he doesn’t want any responsibility so he wants to dump it all on the Republican led Congress. Give him a couple of days and he’ll claim it was all Congress’s idea to begin with.
The article is a piece of crap.
He must keep his lies within his head. He must keep them abstract and unprovable. A leader of a small country....that could be true, but there is no name, no way to verify....therefore it remains abstract. Once he enters reality, he finds the ground shifting immediately. He becomes vassal. He becomes uncertain. Have you ever noticed how he, (not on teleprompter) begins to string out his words.....aaaaaaaaaaaand...........buuuuuuuuut...........sooooooooo. The flow of the worlds greatest orator becomes less than that of the practiced obama.
His is a life predicated on lies. Everything about him is a lie. He lies when the truth fits better. Why does he do this? He knows that if the truth were laid bare he would truly be an emperor with no clothes.
And just once,, Just once......I would like to see him coming off of that airplane, trotting down with his fisted hands bobbing up and down, like he cannot get completely separated from the shuck-and-jive of Motown,.....just once I would like to see him take a header.......full face into that stairway......just once.
This is Obama expounding on his own internal dialog. Millions of people have not caught or don’t face the fact that Obama lives in a world of his own mental delusions. I think his pot or other stuff hasn’t helped his real world outlook.
I thought “world opinion” was just a few years ago that the United States was too powerful, too interventionist, too judgmental, too colonialist.
Now they’ve changed their minds?
Quite an accurate assessment. And a wonderful vision of a fate he deserves!
Worse - he thinks he's creating parables...
