Power Grid Down Drill To Be Conducted By US Government

Power grid vulnerabilities are finally garnering some attention by government officials.

An electrical grid joint drill simulation is being planned in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Thousands of utility workers, FBI agents, anti-terrorism experts, governmental agencies, and more than 150 private businesses are involved in the November power grid drill.

The SHIELD Act, which is stalled in Congress, is the first serious piece of legislation in many years to attempt to address the vulnerabilities of the power grid in.

Rather than do a test, they should just do a case study of Huntsville Alabama a couple of years ago when a tornado cut power to the city of about 750,000 people for over a week.

Citizens drove in all directions to gas stations which still had power. A curfew was imposed from dusk to dawn. People lined up for water and food; but no riots that I can remember.

If they try, their numbers will be “severely reduced’, permanently.

“Texas has a stand-alone power grid....in the electrical sense still the independent Texas Republic.”

Yes, I know and we have a hook up to Mexico to sell them our “extra” electricity.

I expect this drill will assume Texas is out, too. I’m sure it pisses off Hussein/Homeland Security that we are separate - they hate Texas for being here, period.

No Water, toilets, Airports, Hospitals, Veterinarian offices, Funeral homes, (bodies piling up) traffic lights, unrest in the ghettos, etc. What happens in jails?...

If they shut down the electrical grid how will that affect the distribution of natural gas? I believe the pipelines require compressor stations along their length to make up for friction which reduces line pressure and thus volume of gas delivered per unit time. If the compressors are engine driven by duel fuel engines, no problem. If however, the compressors are driven by electric motors we could be in for some chilly days come November.

It has been known to freeze in Wisconsin in November and occasionally it snows. Anybody know for sure what happens to the pipelines when the electric grid winks out?

Regards,
GtG

I've got a 17KW alternator w/ an automatic transfer switch. It will carry all the 120 VAC loads (lighting, furnace, sump pumps, and such. It supplies enough 220 for my deep well pump but if the gas pressure dies with the electric I'll need to rig for propane to get by.

Warm weather is more survivable than cold, especially at this latitude. How many will die if these fools interrupt power in a time of year parts of this country are often at temperatures ranging from the single digits to -30?

If even one person dies because of this stupidity, these jerks should be charged with Murder 1.

After I thought I made out intensions clear, we are still being pressured to get a smart meter. They don’t give up easily.

” large transmission transformers” - a few years ago one of those feeding Phoenix blew in summertime.

The nearest replacement was in Oregon or Washington.

Had to be transported by barge to Los Angeles, then by heavy-lift trailer at about 5 mph to Phoenix.

Took several weeks, overall.

I don’t recall if anyone lost power due to peak limits, but even if they didn’t it was “darned close”.

That’s for a single failure.

I have no idea where the replacement for the spare came from.

Imagine what would happen if even two or three failed nationwide.

That will be a problem.

Was a time the compressors were driven by engines that burned natural gas, but that was deemed harmful to Mother Gaia, so the compressors were converted to be run by electric motors.

A few winters ago in Texas, there was a large electrical outage (I don't recall if it was the one caused by all the windmills becoming becalmed or a different one) and all of a sudden the natural gas quit flowing.

"The antiquated electrical system in the United States has been one of the most neglected pieces of integral infrastructure."

Yet, Congress gave the Obammunist over a trillion bucks in porkulus funds to fix problems like this. Same goes for our roads, bridges, sewer and freshwater systems, railways, etc. One trillion-plus dollars...gone where?

Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!

The 14KW Kohler standby generator I installed has a dual fuel (propane/natural gas) and we set it up for propane. If tptb ever run natural gas lines out this far (doubtful) I'll be good in any scenario. As it is I have 2,000 gallons of propane on hand now. Should be good for a few months when the shtf.

Propane is spendy, but it is our only source...

The show Revolution has showed enough people what plausibly could happen if the grid was brought down. Surprised NBC would allow a show to represent how bad weapons confiscation would be. A nation split between warlords would not be out of the question.

I was thinking the same thing -- half of the continent will be depending on electricity for heat in November. Seems like this drill would be better scheduled in May or September.

Does anyone in charge have common sense???
