President Barack Obama should not necessarily wait for Congress to return from recess before taking action in Syria, two lawmakers said on "Fox News Sunday."
"We have to move, and we have to move quickly," said Rep. Eliot Engel (D-N.Y.), the ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. "Congress needs to be involved, but perhaps not initially."
The U.S. can and should act to respond after reported widespread chemical attacks in Syria, using cruise missile strikes but not "boots on the ground" to destroy Bashar al Assad's runways, munitions and fuel, Engel added. "I think we have to respond, and we have to respond in conjunction with our NATO allies. ... We cannot afford to sit back and wait."
The Senate Foreign Relations Committee's ranking member, Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.), agreed, adding that the amount of social media coming out of Syria indicates that the chemical attacks actually are happening, and weren't just invented by the opposition to drum up sympathy.
"My sense is that this has happened, I think we will respond in a surgical way," Corker said. "And I hope the president as soon as we get back to Washington will ask for authorization from Congress to do something in a very surgical and proportional way. Something that gets their attention, that causes them to understand that we are not going to put up with this kind of activity."

Obama own words: No nation should tell Iran, Libya, Egypt, Yemen they can’t have nuclear weapons
number 1: We do not “have to move”, US has no interests whatsoever in Syria
Number 2: We do not “have to move quickly” or move at all, US has no interests whatsoever n Syria
These”lawmakers” ought to keep their lying mouths shut and concentrate on their jobs
...the big eared little boy king still has red ink left in his pencil....
Obama explain why you didn’t care when Iran slaughtered its own People but you do when its Syrians??
Corker..predictably on the McCain rino side of things. God help us. And their stupidity will give Obama just the shield he needs to blame any fallout on ‘republicans’.
Way to go GOPe! Morons!
You are correct. We ain’t got no dog in this fight.
Yeah, better send in cruise missiles to destroy evidence that the rebels, ie, terrorists, were behind the chemical attacks, before the UN completes its investigation.
Excellent point. As Sarah Palin so eloquently stated, “Let allah sort it out.” There is NO winning side for America in this Muslim on Muslim fight.
What could go wrong?!

Limited efforts? These ( o )s ignore irresistible mission creep.
We have no declaration of war with Syria, they have not attacked us nor even threaten to do so. Any such act by this asshole needs to have him impeached immediately, period, end of story.
“Corker..predictably on the McCain rino side of things.”
Yep.

Obama did not consult with Congress on his intervention in Libya. Why start now? I sense that Obama wants to share the blame and will ask for approval from Congress or at least consult with top leadership. The vast majority of Americans are against it.
I agree with your assessment, however, consulatation is not sufficient IMO for it to be a constitutionally approved action. When this goes bad, hopefully, we can get the Congress to do its thing and remove the turd.
Agreed, but I doubt there is enough balls in the GOP to even push for impeachment.
two or three bombs directed on the bunker where Assad is known to be will end the current war.
Bibi will know the targets
Obama has done so many unconstitutional acts that this will just be added to the list and no action taken. The GOP lacks the cojones to hold this tyrant to account. He should have been impeached long ago. Yes, the Senate will never approve it, but the GOP controls the House and should proceed apace.
........why should the U.S. spend a billion or so on Tomahawks and other weaponry to blow up a few jihadis that but for their brothers distracting them by trying to kill them with poison chemicals they would be planning more 911’s against us.
And, people like Corker make me more ill than the Dims! This country is BROKE and he wants to save a few jihadis from themselves. Let them continue to self eradicate and do the world a favor! The fewer of them on this planet the better! Period!
Our interests in Syria are linked to Lebanon and most importantly to Iran. Unless the US takes on Iran, we are forever destined to have this splinter in our eye, and someday they can and will succeed in harming the Great Satan.
Iran is at WAR with the US; Syria is a proxy.
In the greater global chess match with Iran, the death of Hugo Chavez in Venezuela slowed down the Iranian foray into South America which also could have drawn Cuba into another nasty web. Syria is one of four countries along with Venezuela and Lebanon that are in the Orbit of Iran. Iran is in the Russian Orbit, as are Syria and Venezuela. The chess match continues and removing Syria from the chess board will open further diplomatic and military opportunities to reduce, ultimately Russian influence. Russian influence has and always will be linked to proxy wars with the neighbors of their surrogates. Finally, the pressure on Iran being denied Syrian (and the Bekaa Valley Lebanon) will further isolate them into their own national boarders. Those boarders are completely surrounded by US military bases in every country. Those US bases have on hand fighter bombers and can serve as a final military-diplomatic reminder that a now weakened Iran faces a final Red Line. Without removing Syria from Iranian orbit, we do not have the option to deal with them on issues of terrorism and nuclear issues.
