Rand Slams Congress for Funding Egypt's Generals: 'How Does Your Conscience Feel Now?'
Foreign Policy ^ | 15 Aug 2013 | John Hudson

Sen. Rand Paul is hammering his fellow senators for keeping billions in financial aid flowing to Egypt's military -- even as Cairo's security forces massacre anti-government activists.

"This is something that those who voted in Congress are going to have to live with," Paul told The Cable on Thursday. "The question is: How does their conscience feel now as they see photographs of tanks rolling over Egyptian civilians?"

As the official Egyptian death toll climbs to 638, the legislation the Kentucky libertarian is referring to was an amendment to suspend aid to Egypt until the country holds free and fair elections. Two weeks ago, Republicans and Democrats rejected it by an overwhelming 86-13 vote -- and top lawmakers in both parties protested it loudly.

"This amendment may be good politics, but it is bad policy," Sen. Bob Menendez, the Democratic chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said at the time.

"It would be a terrific mistake for the United States to send a message to Egypt: you're on your own," Republican Senator John McCain added back then. "I urge my colleagues to vote to table the Paul amendment."

The vote has already come back to haunt some lawmakers, such as McCain, who is now advocating a cancellation of aid to Egypt . . .

because the Generals have followed the wishes of most Egyptians and thrown the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood out of office.

They shouldn't have voted for brotherhood rule in the first place. Unfortunately they'll do it again because despite the fantasies to the contrary, they're still muslims and will return to their vomit as soon as things settle down.

You are right, such groups never really go away but if you stomp hard enough you can get many of them.

And you can stomp all you want, they’re still muslim animals on both sides and will just elect another muslim animal at the first opportunity.

Interesting phrase.

No we should stop the funding because the law says if there is a military coup all US funds are withheld.

I think this is stupid geopolitics and that law should not be on the books but....

THE ISSUE NOW IS THE OBAMA REGIME IS LAWLESS AND NO EXCUSE SHOULD BE GIVEN THEM FOR DISREGARDING THE RULE OF LAW IN THE US.

THAT IS WHAT WILL COST US THE US, WHO CARES ABOUT EGYPT???

We did enough damage with the ousting of Mubarak and Egypt is toast. We shouldn’t do any more damage. Besides, aid we give them today will just go to the Brotherhood when this current government falls.

There was no military coup in Egypt.

The military stepped in when tens of millions of Egyptians signed a petition to oust Mursi and then took to the streets for over a month.

You don’t know Egyptian history very well. The Army has been killing these cockroaches for 80 years. The MB promised to behave in the 80s after they got stomped on again. That’s how Al Qaeda was formed.

The MB will not go away but their influence will go back to the peasant villages and out of the cities. The generals know what they are doing.

The MB in charge is suicide.

The Egyptian military should take care of the Muslim Brotherhood. The Muslim Brotherhood is behind Hamas, Al Qaida and pushing to have Islam (sharia law) take over America. The Muslim Brotherhood burns churches in Egypt.

Sen. Paul should not be so reflexive. Former ambassador John Bolton can give him an education of what is going on in Egypt now.

Unless you want another IRAN in North Africa you better support the Egyptian generals who oppose the Muslim Brotherhood and are trying to restore representative government as they had before Obama.

The MB is the mother of all current political Islamic groups. They are evil to the core and the Egyptian new gov and mil is doing the right thing. And they have evidence that 0bastard was funding the MB in Egypt.

Have you read the Live Egypt thread?

All your assertions are not factual. The MB is not the single largest faction of the country. The MB support is narrow, maybe 10% at present.

Rand is even worse than I thought he was, and I already thought he was a slimeball nutcase like his Pa.

Siding with MB is really insanely evil.

I’m just going to laugh at you. Right off the top because I’m not impressed with a freeper with a muslim sounding name who comes out of nowhere to set the record straight (you have zero credibility with me)

The dumb ass egyptians elected Morsi and will just turn around and elect another just like him like muslim scum always do.

I really couldn’t care less what happens in that litter box and don’t want my tax dollars going to the cat turds that inhabit it.
