The GOP’s kamikaze mission to stop Obamacare
Washington Post ^ | August 2, 2013 | by Ezra Klein

Posted on 08/02/2013 4:47:28 PM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer

The campaign against Obamacare began as a campaign for self-interest. Obamacare, conservatives promised, would raise your taxes, take away your doctor and possibly put you in front of a death panel. The fight to keep it from passing was a fight to keep bad things from happening.

But the effort has devolved into something much weirder: A campaign of self-sacrifice. The current crop of Republican strategies ask conservative congressmen to hurt their constituents and their political prospects, conservative governors to hurt their states, and conservative activists to hurt themselves. It’s a kamikaze mission to stop Obamacare.

But behind all of it is a mounting desperation. Obamacare beat a filibuster. It beat the right’s legal challenge. Its namesake beat the Republican Party’s nominee for president. Come 2014, it will start helping millions of Americans afford health insurance, and come the 2016 election it will have been delivering health care to tens of millions of Americans for almost three years. That’s not the kind of program that just goes away in American politics.

And so Republicans are desperate to stop it from going into effect in October, and from working smoothly after that. But desperation doesn’t always lead to good strategies.

70% of Americans, in the most recent survey, don’t want it.

If the GOP would get off its backside and try, Obamacare could be stopped because a lot of Dems would probably slip in behind them and use their vote as cover.

People hate this and every day more and more people are getting upset about it, not only lowly peons like us, but even analysts and commentators. I don’t know where they were before, but it’s never too late to get it right.

The GOP has a golden opportunity to save the country.

ROFL.

Folks, I do logistics for a major trucking company. The memo came out back in March 2013 . The fall is the annual enrollment, and already the business is planning to cut hours and dump people on the "exchanges."

The GOP has one chance left and two ways to mess it up.

“Immigration reform”, and Obamacare.

Either they stop both or there is no further need for the GOP. The consequences of losing on these two issues goes far beyond the fate of a mere political party, but the party does go to the wayside, taking its place on the shelf of historical anachronisms and relics.

We're cooked and they're done.

Kamikazi attacks were occasionally successful. During WWII 47 ships were sunk and another 300 were damaged by kamikaze attacks.

The real problem with this comparison is that Kamikaze missions were effective. Seven thousand ships and crews will attest to that.

Even if the House votes defunding Obamacare the President will just fund it out of his stash.

THE GOP-DNC will support the DNC-DNC because
ObamaCARE is RomneyCARE and THEY are immune from it.

It may well be a Kamikaze mission. If so, so be it. A party that could not prevent it in the first place (GOP votes were needed for it to get out of senate committee) should go down in flames. There is a chance at least that something conservative may arise from the ashes.

Think they have it backward. Obamacare was the Kamikazi mission to save the Oligarchy from financial ruin. They had to pass the bill to see what is in it.
