Libya was a Russian client state so whatever surface to air they had in theater was most likely older Russian. We never lost anything when providing air cover to the rebels so I doubt the “big gun” is older Russian surface to air. I’m not not playing the threat these weapons could pose to civilian aircraft. I just don’t see the surface to air as being the reason so many CIA were in Libya.

You overlook the weapons we provided to the Libyan insurgents to help overthrow Qaddafi. They included modern MANPADS.

I agree. If a gun-running operation was all it was, upon being revealed, the immediate response would be "remember Iran-Contra!"

Recall there was also a rumor about the Benghazi raid being a pre-arranged, but botched. kidnapping operation. Ambassador Stevens would've then been exchanged for the Blind Sheik.

Subsequently, it has been reported that Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood were in on the deal -- and that Morsi would personally "negotiate" the exchange with Obama. Political points all around.

This theory fits certain odd elements of the night's events. For example, the consistent "stand down" instructions to security people in the CIA Annex and the Tripoli embassy. It also tends to explain Obama's disengagement from the events -- as if he already knew what was going to happen.

As it happened though, Tyrone Hill and Glen Doherty disobeyed their orders and helped put up a bloody resistance -- that was unexpected. And Stevens didn't live to be kidnapped.

I'm now inclined to think there might be something to this theory.

You are so right! I think the political class knows what is coming due to their own meddling in the economy and plundering of the taxpayers.....A complete economic collapse. Of course I have been on a economic reading binge of late, so am pretty immersed in it right now. We have no real leadership because they are afraid to stick their necks out and let people know the truth and that the only way out is going to be painful for all......but a total collapse will be worse...much worse.

Interest rates will have to rise and when that happens this house of cards could easily collapse.I wanna know who will buy the debt and at what price interest.

The Fed is buying most of our debt now with unicorn money...lol. The interest rates need to rise to help the correction, but the fed will not do it. This will result in rapid inflation and collapse of the US dollar. Then all hell breaks lose. That is the run down from a few of the books I am reading right now anyway. The true Crash hasn’t happened yet.
