At times of peak demand for electricity, do you want your refrigerator to run at the discretion of the power company?
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has revised its Energy Star energy-efficiency requirements for residential refrigerators, and it is encouraging the inclusion of connected features that respond to utility signals to curb their energy consumption.
The EPA announced the new requirements on June 27. Included is the optional smart-grid connection for customers to electronically connect their refrigerator or freezer with a utility provider.

Well now, it seems the ‘smart meters’ weren’t just about efficiency and saving money with meter readers after all...
it will be a cold day in hell...
So in other words, if you live in CA or some other liberal cesspool that can’t manage their power grid, prepare for warm beer in the summer. Right?
This could end up with a lot of sour milk.
Once the coal plants are gone, the Smart Grid is the only thing that is going to keep the lights on 24/7. Remote control of large household loads or rolling blackouts—that’s your choice.
Or we could keep burning coal like intelligent, civilized people! But our leftist masters don’t like that and we’re too lazy to hang them from lampposts. Yet.
Or food poisoning because your leftovers weren’t properly refrigerated.
Or spoiled milk.
Melted ice cream.
etc.
$9 per month if I want to opt out of the smart meter and that’s before they’ve even started installing them here. Give them a few years and I’m sure they’ll quickly hit $20 or $30 per month to opt out.
My refrigerator is my highest user of electricity. The whole point of being in a First World Country is to be able to store food safely.
When the power goes out the prime needs are to run either the furnace or the refrigerator along with some minor lighting at night.
I'd rather have a switch where I could cut off power for the government.
The EPA is unconstitutional, there is no authority in the US Constitution for the EPA it should therefore be abolished.
Next up, your TVs, DVD players, air conditioners, indoor lighting, washing machines, dishwashers, home computers, cable boxes....

Well we could be burning thorium too, but that is scary nook-u-lar power that the greenies are deathly afraid of and giving cheap energy to the people is like giving an idiot child a machine gun, so sayeth John P Holdren’s Idol...
Keeping 5 gallon Toliets going, Restoring Ford Excursions, and Restoring pre-socialist madate appliances so we can tell them to stuff their smart meters..
Cut the life of your Refrigerator in half as this burns out your Compresser.
This has absolutely nothing to do with the EPA and everything to with me being a damned skinflint:
I’ve already got the fridge thermostat set as warm as I can and still keep stuff frozen in the freezer section.
Any further monkeying by anybody will result in thawing of stuff that shouldn’t.
The EPA can go screw themselves mightily.
screw em!
No smart meters at this household!
We will all be living like Druids some day ...
nope, i’ll buy ued if i have to. you can gt some real nice stainless steel coating kits and they can look awesome.
