As George Zimmerman Prosecution Implodes, A Media Invested In His Guilt Grows More Shrill

“It’s dangerous for America the way were doing this as a trial in the media with the whole nation as jury.” This observation about the trial of George Zimmerman for the murder of Florida teen Trayvon Martin in 2012 by MSNBC host Touré was as true when he made it, in March of last year, as it is today. Too few, it seems, have taken his advice to heart.

Since the Zimmerman trial began, the instant analysis of the nationally televised case – meriting near wall-to-wall coverage on the cable news outlets – has not been favorable to the prosecution. State witness after state witness has had their credibility impugned or introduced reasonable doubt that Zimmerman’s actions may not meet the threshold necessary to convict him for second degree murder. And as the state’s case against Zimmerman grows thinner, the tone of those in the media who have invested a significant portion of the last 16 months in an effort to indict him in the court of public opinion has grown more caustic.

This phenomenon began on June 28 after the prosecution’s star witness and Martin’s friend, Rachel Jeantel, took the stand to testify that she was on the phone with the deceased teen when fatal fight with Zimmerman began.

Her testimony was nothing short of a disaster for the prosecution. She was combative, she was reprimanded for being contemptuous of the proceedings, she admitted to reversing assertions made in deposition, and she introduced the fact that Martin had racially profiled Zimmerman (disclosing that Martin had used the slur “cracker” to describe him).

It was then that the media commentators invested in Zimmerman’s guilt went on the defense. MSNBC contributor Goldie Taylor – one of the first media commentators to don a hooded sweatshirt to protest Martin’s unnecessary murder....

Ans you write like someone who hasn’t been watching the trial, following the evidence and the recordings of the investigations and police interviews. Those who have heard the tapes of the interviews, saw for themselves the behavior and probity of the witnesses and are in the process of making up their minds. As one who has watched, listened and thought about what I have seen its a very straightforward case.

That underlying threat is what the prosecution is counting on for a conviction. The message, which they must never say out loud, but will be conveyed to the jury in a multitude of small indirect ways is simple:

"If Zimmerman walks, all Hell will explode and many people will die. Put him away for a couple of years, and things will stay calm. Isn't the freedom of this one man, who was probably a bit over overly aggressive, worth it to keep the peace?"

This, in a nutshell, is their entire case and they know it, the media knows it, and the defense knows it. What's more, reasoned to an all female jury, it's probably going to be quite effective. These women will rationalize their decision as noble in ways aimed at promoting universal peace and harmony. I mean, tough luck on Zimmerman, but hey, sometimes sacrifices have to be made.

The defense only has one chance and it is not "reasonable doubt about guilt", it's "overwhelming proof of innocence".

Well, in your premise Zimmerman would have had to walk up to Martin and assault him. Can you explain where you heard that theory? Nobody has charged that, not the police, the prosecutor, or the woman who is now being charged with falsifying the warrant that resulted in Zimmerman’s trial going on now.

In fact a detective just got off the stand saying that Zimmerman’s story seemed accurate.

The prosecutor has had amply opportunity to call any witness he wants, that could reveal your premise. Has he?

I hope the jurors do the right thing. Don’t know their demographics or make up, but just hope they decide with intelligence, integrity, and look at the facts no matter where it leads and won’t be worried about what blacks may do if things don’t go “their” way.

I think that we all accept the media has a “libTurd bias “.
This case is being decided in the courtroom and in the public eye , encouraged by the obama media .
Yes , the media are looking for rateings , but they are the doing the Obama (community organizer ) job for him too.
The media made this a racist legal case ; not the police !

As I said, I don’t think it applies here either.

Was only pointing out that getting your head pounded into the pavement does not in and of itself mean your lethal force in response automatically qualifies as self-defense.

Did considerable research on the subject back when all the hollering about “stand your ground” was going on. Stand your ground never applied at all in Zimmerman’s case. Either it was self-defense without SYG or it was illegal homicide of some degree.

In fact, SYG is apparently fairly often misapplied even by the courts here in FL, allowing people to walk who shouldn’t. Not saying that Z is in this group.

Taylor was born in University City, Missouri, but raised in East St. Louis, Illinois. Her father was murdered on November 5, 1973 when she was 5, leaving her mother Mary to raise her and her siblings alone.

After losing both her father and her brother to gun violence in St. Louis and later being victimized by domestic abuse...

As a 16-year-old cheerleader at a St. Louis area high school in 1984, Taylor says she was sexually abused by an athletic coach at her school. The abuse cased her to act out, to let her grades drop, and ultimately to drop out of school altogether.

Michael Savage has been lambasting Zimmerman characterizing him as a “big guy” picking on the “kid” . Well Zimmerman has put on 110 pounds since being arrested. Martin was larger and weighed more than Zimmerman at the time of the shooting. When Savage started going on this rant I turned the dial. He is usefull but quite often he doesn’t get the facts straight and there are a few others who are in the same boat.

Because the propaganda machine is the mainline media and you can’t rely on them to even get the facts out or often don’t report them.. It’s too bad we have to rely on talkies like Savage to find out what the hell is going on because they let US down.

This is why I was so pleased to see the defense get Serino to admit that, though Martin was unarmed while he was walking, he availed himself of a potentially deadly weapon if what Zimmerman said was true--that Martin slammed Zimmerman's head into the concrete.

I have heard that reasoning. It may well be true because the left does have a very twisted approach. Conservative need so twisty thinkers so that we can keep ahead of their traps.
I hope there is more bark than bite and that you and your family do not experience any fallout.
This incident caused damage to many lives. It has given factions, that see profit in keeping blacks disaffected and unable to partake of the American Dream, a new drum to beat.
I keep hoping that our nation will find its way to judging by character, ability and perseverance rather than skin color or sexual gender/preference. I hope that our children will, in future, be held accountable for their behavior and efforts at school and in the community so that they can be ready to take their places in society as contributors not as loose cannons playing knock-out games and flash mob robberies. TM was a loose cannon and when he exploded he destroyed himself and injured others who were involved.

So you’re saying that a guy in a restaurant accidently backs into another guy and spills his drink. The second guy gets right up in his face, nose to nose, and says “Who’s the whore you’re with”, talking about the first guy’s wife standing next to him.

The first guy pushes him back out of his face and he falls down. He then gets up and pulls a knife and runs at the first guy. The first guy pulls out his legal CCW pistol and kills the second guy.

With the first guy “throwing the first punch”, so to speak, you’re saying the first guy cannot now claim self-defense?

I haven’t forgotten that it was the media who creatively edited the 911 call from Zimmerman to make it appear that his only concern was that Martin was black.
