Its dangerous for America the way were doing this as a trial in the media with the whole nation as jury. This observation about the trial of George Zimmerman for the murder of Florida teen Trayvon Martin in 2012 by MSNBC host Touré was as true when he made it, in March of last year, as it is today. Too few, it seems, have taken his advice to heart.
Since the Zimmerman trial began, the instant analysis of the nationally televised case meriting near wall-to-wall coverage on the cable news outlets has not been favorable to the prosecution. State witness after state witness has had their credibility impugned or introduced reasonable doubt that Zimmermans actions may not meet the threshold necessary to convict him for second degree murder. And as the states case against Zimmerman grows thinner, the tone of those in the media who have invested a significant portion of the last 16 months in an effort to indict him in the court of public opinion has grown more caustic.
This phenomenon began on June 28 after the prosecutions star witness and Martins friend, Rachel Jeantel, took the stand to testify that she was on the phone with the deceased teen when fatal fight with Zimmerman began.
Her testimony was nothing short of a disaster for the prosecution. She was combative, she was reprimanded for being contemptuous of the proceedings, she admitted to reversing assertions made in deposition, and she introduced the fact that Martin had racially profiled Zimmerman (disclosing that Martin had used the slur cracker to describe him).
It was then that the media commentators invested in Zimmermans guilt went on the defense. MSNBC contributor Goldie Taylor one of the first media commentators to don a hooded sweatshirt to protest Martins unnecessary murder....

Nope. He was 17, still legally a minor.
Thought the other day how you could make people’s heads explode by referring to him as a “boy,” which implies youth and innocence, exactly what they’re going for with “teen.”
If an officer as down having his head pounded into the sidewalk, I’ll bet that detective would have gotten religion instantaneously. Because it was a citizen protecting himself, “Oh we can’t have that.”
I’m so tired of dip-sticks.
As our legal system does, until proven guilty in a court of law...
You’ve just identified the future of American justice.
Add in a cheering studio audience, a big wheel for the defendant to spin for his “sentence,” and you’re there...

SALTINES!
Thank goodness that FL is a CCW state.
We’ve pretty much had access to the information for months. I don’t think it’s that big of a stretch by this point to think he’s innocent.
We know Zimmerman’s head was being pounded into the sidewalk. What more do we need to know, to realize he was defending himself?
I couldn’t convict the guy on that alone.
There would be no justifiable act for Martin using what could easily have been lethal force. End of story.
Could it be the prosecutor is intentionally blowing the case because he doesn’t really believe in Zimmerman’s guilt or in the charges?
The federal government (Barack and Holder) practically ordered the state and local governments to charge Zimmerman.
(If Obama had a son he would look like Trayvon)
Barack and Holder are also responsible for getting the media stirred up and turning this into a racist circus.
And incite riot for ratings for pure debased self-interests.
The MSM gets a Ratings payoff and gets to live longer on borrowed time, and the Administration get a Crisis they won’t let go to waste....
It is WIN-WIN for those who seek to destroy....
So what to do? Lose the case without throwing in the towel. And that's what their doing.
Over the last few days I noticed he is no longer referred to as just “Trayvon Martin.” Now he is referred to as “Unarmed teen, Trayvon Martin.” The Obamedia are really working to subvert the justice system on this one.
You are presumed innocent till proven guilty. That is quite different from prejudging innocence as a fact before the trial even begins.
Look, I believe he probably did act in self-defense, but if your criticism of the media is that they prejudged him, not that they prejudged him as guilty rather than innocent, then you shouldn't prejudge him yourself if you want to be consistent.
No.
Only in the big cities still restricting second amendment rights.
The lesson of the Korean Shop owners will prevail elsewhere.
Given the low information anture of the populace, they may get it....
Sadly....
Sadly if we are to return to the Republic and Constitution we have all but lost, there, it appears, will have to be blood spilled, let us pray that unlike George Bush the first, we see it thru till the win is assured.

What’s this about?
I don't know exactly what happened that night, but I can certainly give you a scenario where his actions would not constitute self-defense, even if his head was being pounded into the pavement.
If Zimmerman assaulted Martin, a felony, he cannot later claim self-defense if he is losing a fight he started himself. Self-defense cannot be claimed in commission of a felony.
Otherwise, if a perp attempted to mug an innocent citizen, then won the ensuing gun fight, he could claim self-defense and walk.
I'm not claiming that's what happened last year, only that being in the process of losing a fight does not necessarily make lethal action self-defense under the law. Nor should it.
it’s a stupid made-up phony baloney plastic banana “indictment” by some group that has zero legal power and which only makes them look like loons
The really nasty tactics are yet to come, I’m suspecting.
They seem to think today’s testimony by the detective will turn it all around against Mr. Zimmerman.
