A rare blue lobster was caught in waters near Antigonish on Friday.
According to research based out of the University of Maine, the odds of catching a blue lobster in North America are about one in two million. The blue coloration is caused by a genetic defect that causes the lobster to produce an excessive amount of a particular protein that gives the lobster the unique color.
Sheldon Trenholm of South River, N.S. was the lucky lobsterman who caught the brilliant blue crustacean near Monks Head.
Trenholm said at first he didn't know what it was thrashing in the trap with seven or eight other lobsters.
He took a few pictures, showed a few friends and then he threw it back because the lobster was too small to keep.
A rare find indeed!
In other news, the “Blue Man Group” is avidly lobbying to purchase that lucky lobster. They envision some very funny “claws grabbing cojones” visual sight gags says their publicist.
Bkmk
A Democrat Lobster?!?!?!?!?!??!..............
Those ARE cold waters!
I wonder what color they turn when you cook them?
Good thing this is in Canada. In the US, finding a lobster of a different color would necessitate the creation of new sensitivity training and reeducation programs at taxpayer expense.
Are they still good with butter?
Phillips in Baltimore once served me a blue lobster that I sent back. Had known what it was, I would just have taken it home whole and preserved it for posterity.
Hate to admit it, but that is exactly what I thought as I was reading the article.
Some years back I went swimming somewhere up the Maine coast in July or August. It took me the better part of an hour to get my entire body in the water (I'm not a "jump right in" guy).To quote Roseanne Rosanadana....I thought I was gonna DIE!
Excellent post.
They remain blue. See post #11.
It makes me mad that the media was able to flip the colors like they did.
Democrats are RED, ie, COMMUNISTS.
And the media, since 2000, have flipped those colors so that that association is not made.
Did you turn blue?
I’m glad he threw it back after taking the pictures. I know he said he threw it back because it wasn’t of legal size, but I’d hope he’d throw it back even if it was of legal size to harvest. Somethings that are rare you should just let live.
Oh wow!!
