A soldier who served Chick-fil-A sandwiches at a party he threw to honor the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and his promotion to Master Sergeant has received a letter of reprimand.
The soldier received his promotion last summer, and since "it coincided with national controversy surrounding Chick-fil-A's support of traditional marriage," he decided to serve their sandwiches and celebrate DOMA while he was at it.
According to a Fox News report, the invitation to the soldier's party read: "In honor of my promotion and in honor of the Defense of Marriage Act, I'm serving Chick-fil-A sandwiches at my promotion party."
In response, the military went so far as to put a letter of reprimand in the soldier's file and "an investigation was initiated to see if he had violated any policy." Chaplain Alliance Executive Director Ron Crews said there was even "talk of bringing judicial punishment against" the soldier for a time.

I suspect that he sent out an e-vite on his government email account. How many people mail out hand written invitations these days? The e-vite probably got passed along the email universe and someone got their nose out of joint.

FIRST SENTENCE of posted article:
A soldier who served Chick-fil-A sandwiches at a party he threw to honor the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and his promotion to Master Sergeant has received a letter of reprimand.
A Journalist knows that the most IMPORTANT part of the issue is always placed at the beginning of the sentence.

On the bright side, a letter of reprimand is better than no mail at all.

I shudder to think of the number of Power Point presentations that had to be made, edited and presented because of this incident.

I remember back “In The Day” when you would receive a reprimand for Congressional Influence if you tried to use any civilian official to intervene in anything military...Then, the Military prided itself in being beyond political BS... I am a retired Army Sgt and my departure in 1975 was because of Political Correctness run amok in the European Command. Every separate group had their “Washington Angel” looking out for them and a month would not go by without some Congressman berating the commander for some slight,(perceived). Of course the military expression “S—T flows downhill’ kicks in and as a Platoon Sgt, I would have to gather the troops and pass on some political bulls—t just to cover his butt. This was not just an isolated incident but was pervasive over the entire command

Heck, it was a private party and the military should have kept their nose out of it in total. Some big O-5 or O-6 should lose their commission in my books.
