Issa just allowed Louis Lerner to waive her fifth amendment rights!

I do not understand why she was not made to answer every question. And why has Congress not subpoenaed her computer (home and office)?

We all need to set aback and examine at all scenarios, as to why she plead the 5th, and what she could reap from this. One is that some one that will be fired and thrown under the buss, will point fingers to her and higher ups, unless they coincidentally wind up in Marcy Park with Vernon Foster. I believe she will perjure herself later in the coming testimonies of other IRS employees, and if she is caught in perjury she could face jail time, if she does not cooperate with congressional investigators.

As other would have stated, immunity would suffice.

Read somewhere else.
Issa asked her to read a transcript, purported to be her interview with Trasury IG.
Issa asked if that was her testimony.

She REPLIED yes, that was her testimony.

She cannot pick and choose which questions to answer

That is my understanding of the law too.

Once you open your mouth, and it isn't to plea the 5th,you have to answer all questions put to you.

I think that was just a clarification. The committe had been asking for transcripts of testimony and the minority had received them but not the majority, or at least, Issa was not aware that they had been received. And he didn’t want them entered into the record until they had been verified. So he asked her if those were in fact, transcripts of her previous testimony.

I don’t think those conversations had any bearing on what she was supposed to testify about today. It was preliminary stuff and I think was before the witnesses had been sworn.

It angers me when I see the video of Lerner making her statement of
innocence on TV News Channels, instead of her taking the fifth over and
over again. Trey Goudy thought the same thing. And spoke up. Good for
Trey.

Exactly. You get it. If one is not going to get answers at least get campaign
material. This IRS treated conservative groups like crap. And Issa lets her
off the hook, without even embarrassing her.
You people who want to give her immunity are fools.

Fascinating. I had no idea.

Whoops. That woman deserves everything she gets. She has a very long history of partisan attacks; using the Government as a weapon.

Shulman comes off as a guy in an office chair who literally, by his own admission, did nothing of value for the American people while getting paid a good deal of tax-payer money.

I have said often that all Federal employees should have to swear an allegiance to the American citizen every morning at 9AM and - in that recital - thank the American tax payer for allowing them to have their job. President and Congress included. Pipe dream.

I hope they find out what she knows FIRST before granting immunity

The libtards thought they would grant immunity to Colonel North and he would dump all over Reagan... but they did and then he told them nothing anyway

But is that true? The 5th Amendment says we don’t have to say anything that might incriminate us. Giving a statement doesn’t waive that. They could have kept her there and she could have answered every question with “I refuse to answer on 5th Amendment grounds” and there would have been nothing the committee could have done to force a different response.

The mistake here is that they allowed her to read the statement to begin with before asking her a question they knew she wouldn’t answer.
__________________________________________________
She voluntarily took the stand and testified on her own behalf, claiming she did nothing wrong. Is she able to state her case and not be subjected to opposing questions on the very matter she denied culpability? She can refuse to respond to opposing questions, but she will/should be held in contempt and subjected to all the ensuing penalties.

Issa did say that he was playing a long game here...not grinding her THIS TIME by having her plead the Fifth over and over might have been a good call. Otherwise, how do you get her up there over and over again?

“The wheels of justice turn slowly, but grind exceedingly fine. “
