The House Ways and Means Committee holds the first Congressional hearing on the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) subjecting applicants for tax-exempt status to higher levels of scrutiny based on political leanings.
Witnesses include Acting IRS Commissioner Steve Miller who resigned on Wednesday and the Treasury Departments Inspector General Russell George for Tax Administration.
Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) said the IRS' targeting of "American taxpayers based on politics is both astounding and appalling." He stated that the Committee will "get to the bottom of this practice and ensure it never takes place again.
In announcing the hearing, Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI) said that it is "essential that there be a thorough and bipartisan investigation and effective remedial action.
Since June 2011, the Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating whether the Internal Revenue Service discriminated against taxpayers based on political opinions.
I have one hour left to watch this before work....dang!
The Dems are trying to draw the GOP into semantic word games. The GOP need to lay out the basic facts and slap that down for good. Americans were targeted by the IRS based on their political beliefs. There were no “filters” for Democrat groups.
Boehner just needs to lay that all out and put it on the kenyan to “fix it”. No fix, no funding. Government shutdown.
Actually somebody did, I forget who, and he said the buck stops with me.
If you can listen at work, you can get the audio through the C-SPAN website or on a smartphone via the C-SPAN app.
I’m in his district but don’t quite understand your question. I muted him during questioning... was this referring to a statement he made?
“Uh oh...
This is for you and the beer...”
Thanks. One of their best videos.
This does remind me of Watergate. Hours of mind numbing questions, and then bang, a bit of truth comes out.
Gadzooks! You just cannot make up... this stuff!
On CSPAN, the lib dim callers are saying the Pubs are just so MEAN...
Wish they really WERE...
And the CSPAN moderator has a wicked nasty cold sore on his lip...ugh.
Are any of them or their relative bundlers for 0?
And of course, as I predicted, they’re doing what they always do when caught breaking the law: “Poorly written laws made us do it, so we need reform.”
On the case, Looks like so far we have more of the SGT Schultz defense, I KNOW NOTHING, CAN”T REMEMBER, JUST READ THAT
"But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and ALL liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death." Revelation 21:8
Absolutely! I can tell you here in the People's Democratic Socialist Republic of Illinois that Little Dick Durbin is neck deep in this crap.
Great song, too.
Not fond of Vedder’s politics, tho...
Glad you liked...
(Don’t like to hi-jack thread...sorry)

Now this clown Doggett (he’s been around forever in Texas and is as partisan as they come) is defending the IRS to his last breath. He is disgusting but the area he represents is known as Moscow on the Brazos (Austin) so he keeps getting elected.
Close up picture of Miller.
