The Winchester (Va.) Police Department is taking a close look at its officers' weapons holsters after an officer's gun accidentally went off in a special needs school bus.
The incident occurred Monday morning when a middle school student reached for a police officer's gun, reports TV3Winchester. Fortunately, no one was injured.
The officer had been dispatched to the bus to calm down the student. While the officer was sitting next to him, the student reached over and put his finger on the trigger of the weapon. The bullet went through the seat and hit the floor.
There's got to be a lot more to this.

“Have you ever seen a holster for a pistol that leaves the trigger exposed?”
I can clear nylon flip the safety off, and full-cock it in less than a second.
All of the weapons here have a round in battery.
The only negligent discharge was after I got the catz, and one set off a shotgun leaned in the corner. I now store them barrel down, so a stretching cat doesn't manage to pull the safety off and hit one of the triggers.
Of course, that cat avoids corners of the room now.

I haven’t carried the Glock in 5-6yrs, since I bought the 2 Kimbers, which I do carry loaded.
The lack of any pronoun whatsoever used for the officer seemed intentional.
Probably a very good guess, I’m thinking. Must have been either a low, quick-draw holster w/ trigger exposed, or the kid pulled it out and fired.
My Galco FED212 paddle holsters have a thumb-break strap, but I can draw and shoot the Kimbers in under 2 secs. I practice.
Neither does my 1976 Colt Trooper MK III .357 Magnum 6” revolver.
“Firstly, I do not ever keep a round in the chamber. Maybe thats not a good policy for cops, but to me its an accident waiting to happen.”
Hey, are you that henchman from the movies that always racks his slide before getting down to business? :)
How far along does a disturbance on a ‘Special needs bus’ go before an ARMED POLICEMAN is involved?
We have put ourselves in a position these days where most ‘situations’ that were solved by a stern voice, or a ruler are now ending up with police being called and in a lot of cases teens and pre-teens end up being ‘perp walked’, if not in cuffs.
On the other hand, these laws are being passed by those of us that ‘lived’ during the ‘Corporal Punishment’ days or at least the children of those people.
Those of us that said the ‘coddling’ of the dissident students and draft dodgers and resisters of the 60’s would come back to haunt us etc - Guess we knew all along but were definitely outnumbered.
My ex wife -just a few years younger - has absolutely NO PROBLEM with the no dodge ball, no score keeping, garbage that is being pushed down our throats. (At least I can say my daughters are on ‘my side’ on this one (AND agree with me on MANY things they had absolutely no idea they would end up supporting))
And she is one of the first that will say “I don’t see why those kids are such spoiled brats” but will also be the first to say ‘YOU can’t do that’ when you are disciplining the ‘spoiled brats’ VERBALLY or leaning toward physically.
Not a modern police holster, but I have one from the 30's that you had to insert your finger through the trigger guard and depress a catch before you could draw. It didn't catch on for some reason.
The XD is striker fired like a Glock, there is no hammer or firing pin. The gun is specifically engineered not to fire unless the 1. Grip safety is engaged and 2. The trigger is pulled to the rear until the striker is released.
I'm reasonably confident the number of loaded XD pistols discharging on their own is "zero".
The guard is wearing an improper holster, if it allows someone to put their finger in and fire the gun, holstered.
That particular holster was called “The Emasculator”. Others referred to it as “The Barney Fife”.
How would you like being him today and tommorow? Dang!
I am not an English major but even I can see half a dozen errors that the author made. The gun “went off”. Off of what?
LMBO. That’s a misery that I don’t need. Poor fella. He knows that being stupid hurts.
Government commies have special ways...ways that would put a serf like you in jail.
Right, it was probably a man and they didn't want to embarrass him.
