The gun running may or may not have happened but in any event the story would have provided a cover for the attack on the embassy and the kidnapping of Stevens. With the Ambassador in terrorist hands, the release of RATman would have been a "fait accompli", and O would have made his bones with the Muslim Brotherhood (yet again!), the silent transfer of some "technical assets" would have been icing on the cake. A win/win either way.

If that is the case why lie about it..Obama has been saying for months he wants to arm the Syrian rebels..and what would arming the rebels have anything to do with Stevens and the other 3 brave Americans being killed..my thought from the beginning was that either this was a planned hit on Stevens so they can do a swap for the Blind Sheikh or it had to do with smuggling weapons from Turkey to Syria, like Fast and Furious but Middle Eastern style

You, IMO, are correct. Jerry is simply trying to make this into another Iran-Contra, thus absolving Obama of any treasonous motives.
In addition to arming the Cartles in Emxico, Obama ran guns through an Al Qeda area.

IMO, no mention in the hearings, because the truth is more sinister than gun-running, which is easily interpreted as a simple judgment call.
The truth may be known, but to bring it out in a single grand dish would be too hard for the public to take in. The public does not want to believe their leaders are capable of heinous crimes.
