BENGHAZI MEANS NOTHING

Benghazi is not like Watergate.

It’s worse.

But it won’t have the same end.

In Benghazi, American military specialists, hurrying to relieve other Americans under fire, were twice ordered not to.

In Benghazi itself, they ignored the order and saved dozens. In Tripoli, they had to obey, and two brave former SEALS died as a result.

Let me repeat. American men at arms, ready and eager to go to the aid of their countrymen, were, in two separate incidents, ordered to stand down.

Two separate conscious decisions were made to let Americans die. The fundamental ethic of the American armed forces – leave no man behind – was violated.

We didn’t scramble jets, we didn’t send over the special operators from Tripoli, we didn’t come in from our Mediterranean fleet or our Italian bases, we didn’t fire a missile or divert a drone.

We didn’t even ask the Israelis or the Egyptians for help.

We just wrote them off. It’s not surprising that two more Americans died as a result, it’s surprising that only two more Americans died as a result.

When our government decided to do nothing to relieve besieged Americans, the issue was not two former SEALS, it was the survival of dozens of our countrymen. The compound under attack was providing refuge to a great many Americans, and as terrorists and their munitions surrounded those Americans, our government decided to stand down.

That is incomprehensible.

For the first time in our history, the demonstrated attitude of our government is that Americans are expendable.

That’s the first big thing.

The second is that the American government willfully, repeatedly and purposely lied to the American people.

Contrary to what we now know was the government’s understanding at the time, the Obama Administration denied terrorist involvement, spun some complete lie about an anti-Muslim movie, and purposely and significantly distorted and misreported what had happened.

Pressed on it, the secretary of State yelled at Congress. Asked to explain, the White House spokesman complained of partisanship.

And yesterday, in front of the TV cameras, in an open meeting, the No. 2 diplomat in Libya demonstrated under oath the dishonesty and dishonor of the administration.

And it all means nothing.

The press and the Democrats have characterized the entire inquiry as Republican hate mongering, some species of semi-racism undergirding any opposition to or disagreement with Barack Obama.

In the end, this won’t move the needle of public approval or public policy.

Which is how this is different from Watergate. In that criminal attempt to influence an election, the president’s party turned against him. In this criminal attempt to influence an election, the president’s party will stick with him.

Nixon fell because Republicans of conscience refused to tolerate his immoral and illegal activity. Obama will stand because Democrats have no conscience.

In the case of Nixon, Democrats opposed him universally before Watergate. The only shift in public thinking – the shift that pushed him out – was among Republicans. In the case of Obama, Democrats supported him universally before Benghazi. There will be no shift in their thinking. He will not be pushed out.

In fact, it is likely that among his supporters, he will become more popular, as the narrative of victimhood is wrapped around the poor president being beaten up by the hateful Republicans.

There is no record of an administration sacrificing citizens’ lives and patently lying to the American people. Obama holds the record on that.

And he is going to hold his office, too.

Not because he did the right thing, but because he’s got the right supporters. Supporters to whom party is more important than propriety.

It’s not about America, it’s about partisanship.

And dying is part of life.

Get over it.

And hope there’s something left of America when this monster gets done with it.

boehner did demand State to hand over all of the pertinent emails today and he did state that there would be more hearings. IF boehner calls for a “Special Investigative Committee”... they get subpoena power and then it will be game on. These things have to play out... Watergate certainly did. I do not trust boehner but we have to fight these demons with the weapons that we have... regardless of how spineless they are. We must pressure the republicans to fight hard... and we must never surrender... period.

Then, we have some work to do. We have to explain why we are so disgusted with this administration’s actions in a way that Democrat voters can understand. Why did those two s**tbirds in Boston set off those bombs? They weren’t just juvenile delinquents out for a little fun. They killed children and blew off legs because of what is going on in the Middle East. It isn’t because of what’s going on in Australia. The Middle East. Libya is in the Middle East. Four Americans were killed in Libya. Four Americans were killed in Boston. Where will the next four be? And Obama and the Democrats are in the Middle East right up to their eyeballs. He’s already served one term. American foreign policy is his little bastard child now. You want to know why we’re upset with the Democrats? Go look at those amputees. And spare me the fanfare of fallacial arguments from the media. American foreign policy is Obama’s foreign policy. Don’t like it? Start writing about it honestly. Did they just sit in journalism classes and play with dolls so they never grew up?

Why

It was easily foreseeable that the way Benghazi actually worked out, it offered red meat to conservatives and independents to go after Obama and Clinton.

Clinton did not request that Obama authorize the FEST team to start a rescue operation. Obama did not authorize that a rescue operation be started. Thompson's FEST team was left standing there, stunned, prevented from doing their jobs. Obama has obviously been derelict in his sworn duty and Hillary has had to make sure that her own appointed commission did not talk to her just to hide the truth as best she can.

Even on 9/11/12 it was quite easy to figure out that dereliction of duty would not be a good thing politically for the derelicts.

Even if this event was a "terror" event that went against their political narrative of there being no al kada threat - them doing nothing was still worse for them politically than them giving their approval for a rescue attempt. Denying the rescue looks like dereliction of duty - leaving Americans in the field to die. At least attempting a rescue would make the entire 312 million-strong American population rally behind them and their popularity would soar. Just for trying. The only reason any conservative has anything bad to say about them is because the order was given to stop the rescue. All they had to do was say ok and they would have had enormous support from liberals and conservatives alike - we'd all rally 'round the flag.

So for two people so connected and sneaky to be too "dumb?" to say "do it" - that's simply unbelievable.

On the other hand, let's imagine another outcome, an alternate course of history. If the Ambassador had not died, but was taken alive (he was taken to a hospital that was controlled by terrorists), Obama and Clinton would have had a fantastic opportunity to negotiate for the Ambassador's release.

Testimony has not yielded this yet, but I do get 4 when I add 2 plus 2.
