Vice President Joe Biden's two sons and wife are getting by on $1.50 a day to bring attention to world hunger.

"I'm hungry. I'm very hungry," Hunter Biden told CNBC's Andrea Mitchell in an appearance with his brother Beau Biden to promote the Live Below the Line Campaign.

Nearly 1.5 billion people in the world live below the poverty line and are forced to subsist on the equivalent of $1.50 a day. Hunter Biden, chairman of the board of World Food Program USA, is living on $1.50 worth of food for five days. Beau and their mother, Jill, are participating for one day.

"I'm not as tough as my brother," joked Beau, who is Delaware attorney general.

Many of those are pregnant women, who then give birth to children who already suffer the effects of malnutrition, he noted.

His group funds programs in countries such as Kenya, where many children walk long distances to school just because there is food there, he said. While there, they also get an education that will help them climb out of the cycle of poverty.

So...they are “fasting”....whooped dee doo...why don’t they try and do something to build capitalism in those places where people are “subsisting?”

Maybe they could get Joe to start running the government on the same budget.

I believe this like I believe Biden never plagiarized a word in his life and he played sports in college!

I bet they feel really good about themselves. They can’t wait to look down on everyone who didn’t join their stunt, like the minimum wage workers who work 29 hours a week and try to pay for Obamacare.

I grew up poor and I’m unimpressed.

About 4 years ago, Hunter Biden got a job with a hedge fund. He made $1.2 million/year with little experience.

1.5 billion people eat on less than $1.50 each per day? Maybe so, but I doubt they’re buying their food in Washington D.C. I’m not saying $1.50 is a lot, but many countries have much, much lower costs of living than the U.S.

Is this the guy who blew half-a-million taxpayer bucks for a night or two in London/Paris recently??

This is all an extremely stupid strawman. We feed people in poverty a hell of a lot more than $1.50 a day with their foodstamps, o-phone, etc. Watch this turn into “we’re not giving enough to the po-folks”.

Isn’t Jill their stepmother?

And eating on $1.50 for one day is nothing to brag about. Many people fast for a day or more for all variety of reasons.

I was thinking about this. I could not live on $1.50 a day tho I probably could survive on it.

Obviously, the DAILY liquor bill for Joe is not figured into that $1.50 a day figure.

YEAH...if THEY can eat on $1.50/day...let’s make sure the FOOD STAMP Recipients only get $1.50/day per person.....!!!!

".....the equivalent of $1.50 a day."

In many parts of the world that could be quite a feast

Ramen noodles with leftover frozen veggies is a fairly common lunch for me.

I know a few resourceful folks who can feed a family of 4 on $100/month. The trick is to actually cook real food instead of the processed junk we’re used to.

Why don’t they become conservative, and instead of stealing from the middle class, give to the Salvation Army?
