National Security: The administration moves an advanced missile defense system to Guam because it knows a single low-yield nuke detonated at high altitude could send America back in time a hundred years.
The announcement Wednesday by the Defense Department that it would soon deploy the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense System (THAAD), a missile defense system inherited from the Bush administration, to Guam underscores the seriousness of the threat from North Korea, whose actions, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel rightly said, "present a real and clear danger."
This move comes after the Obama administration reversed its previous scuttling of Bush administration plans to increase our ground-based interceptor force in Alaska and the deployment of two destroyers equipped with Aegis missile defense systems, the Decatur and the John McCain, to the region.
Some observers dismissed it as familiar bluster when North Korea's 28-year-old raging runt, Kim Jong-un, signed an order for North Korea's strategic rocket forces to be on standby to fire at U.S. targets in front of a map that included Austin, Texas, as a target.
But other observers are concerned that a specific target may not be what the possibly imploding North Korean regime may have in mind.
The three-stage missile North Korea launched last December that also orbited a "package," which experts say could be a test to orbit a nuclear weapon that then would be de-orbited on command anywhere over the U.S. and exploded at a high altitude, releasing an electromagnetic pulse (EMP). That would fry electronic circuitry and the nation's power grid.

Have you noticed in every photo the generals surrounding Kim Jong-un are 65 y.o. plus. They date from his father’s era and they are dying off. Kim Jong-un needs to test the loyalty of the next crop against heighten military tension...read bluster. Then he’ll pick the cream of the most devoted and golag or simply execute the rest. It’s a purge, Stalin did it all the time. This is page three in the leftist dictator’s handbook.
How would those cars be refueled if all the refineries were toasted?
Cars still ran fine post Katrina. Gas availability was a big big big big problem however.
The minute the power goes off your life has changed.
Just because you still might be able to use your computer for a couple of days after the power goes off doesn’t mean you still have anything to use it for.
Well; the Quimbaya haven't been gone THAT long...
Kit Carson knew to wipe out the Navajo food supplies, he could finally defeat them.
If it is not on (not in standby by) it should come back on is my understanding.
I wasn’t terribly concerned with the fat boy’s dad. He was old. Old men don’t usually want to die fighting. Usually. Young ones have something to prove. And this guy might very well just be one sandwich short of a picnic.
I can jerk meat in my propane stove and I don’t have to spend 2 hours building a contraption.
Most?
Amish; maybe.
Every person's reality is different. My townhouse group was without power for a week after Ike. Most people in these townhouses are older and their family took them out of here before Ike got here and I imagine they took the frozen food with them as they knew it would spoil if left.
For the people who stayed, we had no spoiled food put out. That is because we have three huge dumpsters put in out of the way spots in our gated townhouse area. I didn't have any spoiled food and doubt the others did, but if they did, they put it in one of those dumpsters and the doors seal well on those dumpsters.
If an attack happened suddenly so we didn't know it was coming, their spoiled food would go in those dumpsters. There wouldn't be spoiled food on the curbs.
Anyone who thinks the Won is capable of managing a hotdog cart is living in a dream.
No propane needed.
Here it is http://dictatorshandbook.net/
An inch of rain on my barn roof drops about 800 gallons into a stock tank.
Let’s do the math...
If a bottle of DANSAI costs...
Oh well; we've been cheating Darwin BIG TIME anyway!
But you can’t “hit a bullet with a bullet.”
That is the libs claim. Yet during testing, a Sprint launched from Kwajalein Atoll made a hard kill (as in making physical contact, not passing close) against the target warhead launched from Vandenburgh. That is late 1960’s technology!
The DONNER party didn’t have to smoke meat, for they kept it in a cooler...
I am afraid that thw NORKS will drop a 6-10 Kt nuke on someone, Guam, Japan, Seoul, Dutch Harbor and that the haloed one will go on TV and say we cant kill thousands or millions of innocent Koreans because of the action of their insane leaders and he will either seek a drone solution or do nothing.
Zero did make a comment about the option of just absorbing the attack. This was a few years ago.
The question asked of me was how to get home from work if it happened in the middle of the day.
A NEMP strength is based on the height it is detonated - the higher it is, the more distance it covers. It is, however, regional in damage. If that region does not include Texas, power will stay on in Texas as it's grid is separate from the rest of the country. A major part of the country's gasoline comes from around Houston in Deer Park, Pasadena, and farther south in Texas City.
I feel sure the government would head to that part of the country FIRST to get those plants working and they would work if not in the damaged area.
If a NMEP went off over Los Angeles, that damage wouldn't extend to the east coast, it would die out and where it would die out would depend on how high the blast happened. It also does not take a high yield nuclear blast to accomplish that.
