billion in gold reserves back from the Federal Reserve. State Rep. Giovanni Capriglione is sponsoring a bill that would establish the Texas Bullion Depository, a state-based bank to house the gold bars owned by the University of Texas Investment Management Company, The Texas Tribune reports. The fed is not Obama.

The NY Fed is a gold warehouse and collects a storage fee.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry told Glenn Beck on his radio show last week that he wants the state’s $1 billion in gold reserves back from the Federal Reserve.

Good luck with that, Gov. Your gold isn't being held by the Federal Reserve. It's stored in the vaults at the New York branch of HSBC.

“No way” was said before in 1861. At some point, there will again come a parting of the ways. I can assure you Texas is fully capable and prepared to go its own way. Those here dependent upon federal largess will simply have to move to...Maryland. ;)

Perry might be the first governor to find out the government is following the Greek practice of limiting withdrawals.

Gold might be limmited to 100 ounces annually.

lol. I love that and so true. I wish the Naval Academy was in a deep red state. Although the Naval Academy needs water and apparently the closer you get to water the more liberal and insane you become.

Perry is on the right track. Succession would likely result in armed conflict with Texas seen as the aggressor. No one wants that.

Financial independence (or financial succession by some) will starve the beast. That may also result in conflict, but the beast is almost tapped-out, so it remains to be seen what the beast could afford. This approach also forces the beast to be the aggressor against the States, should the beast resist.

Actually the New York Fed doesn't charge anything for storing the gold. It charges a transaction fee when gold enters or leaves the vault, but on a day to day basis it costs depositors nothing to leave it there.

I don't know there the Texas gold is but I know where it isn't: the New York Federal Reserve Bank. The bank stores gold held by other central banks or other sovereign nations or international agencies like the IMF. It does not store gold for non-governments like the University of Texas. If their gold deposits are not in Texas then they're in the vault of a commercial bank somewhere.

No way. Texas could not give up all that federal land and federal state welfare it receives. It does sound good seceding, but in reality states are attached to the federal titties and won't make it on their own including Texas.

Texas will just take the "federal" land and they don't need federal "state welfare." Texas has enough resources to make it on its own and especially when other states join it to form Free States of America.

Will Texas also take its share of the debt the country ran up while it was a part?

I would say “NOPE”.

That’s “federal” debt, and belongs to the [remaining] United States of America.

See ya!

So you help run up the credit card and then skip out on paying it? Maybe we’d better hang on to that gold.

The federal institutuons will not be kicked out.

Some will be closed and the desirable ones nationalized

Texas and others will remain as America. The Neo Europa states will be purged from America

Here’s an idea. Why don’t the other 49 states secede, leave Texas as the sole United State, and leave her with all the debt for her own?

OK, go ahead.

BTW, how are you going to quantify how much of the debt “belongs” to each state?

You’d have to arbitrarily exclude or include variables such as productivity, contribution to the economy, and how much of the debt was spent for the benefit of the state in question.

You can’t do that, and you know it. You’re just being that stupid selfish crab in the bucket reaching up and pulling the “escapee” down.
