Here we go again. Actually, it's an ongoing effect by those who embrace political correctness to the point way beyond stupidity. The Washington Redskins professional football team has been pressured by people and organizations for years who feel the use of the name "Redskins" is derogatory, offensive, insensitive, racist, and whatever other label you want to throw at it. Now, the Democrats are stepping up the attack as well.
As reported in The Hill, Democrats in the House of Representatives have introduced a bill that would "prevent the term 'Redskins' from being trademarked." Why, you ask? It's simple. These Democrats want the Washington Redskins to drop the name.
The Non-Disparagement of American Indians in Trademark Registrations Act of 2013 is co-sponsored by Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.), and comes days after a federal trademark panel heard arguments over whether the team name was a slur. The panel could potentially overturn the team's trademark, which would erode profits by allowing other businesses to sell apparel and goods featuring the Redskins name.
Earlier this month, Norton said the team "should consider" a new name.
Nobody would let a comparable name to blacks stand," Norton said, adding that she thinks the team will eventually be forced to make a change.
Here's the real problem. As noted in the story, there are "renewed calls in Washington politics and media for the team to change the name." But notice, the sentence specifies "Washington politics and media." Where's the public outcry. Let's listen... All I hear are crickets. That's because this is NO outcry.
All of these PC efforts are just ridiculous. The story also points out that numerous high school teams use the Redskins name. And these are coming under attack too. But it's not from local residents. It's from legal groups and left-wing organizations who want to tell the public how to think, and force teams to change all under threat of lawsuit.
To see how ridiculous this has become, just look at the oped in The Washington Post. The headline reads, "The Redskins name is really valuable, and really offensive. Heres how to fix it." So, he says the name isn't just offensive, but it's "really" offensive. Wow... really? The only example the author cites is from another left-wing writer. That's hardly a plethora of evidence.
If people want change, they will demand it. It's as simple as that. Let the Washington Redskins be the Redskins. Let's move on to something more important like the budget, the debt, taxes, jobs, national security, or a host of other issues that are actually important.
I hear that the people in Dallas say it should be the “Washington Whoosies”. Just sayin....
Is this what we are paying the big bucks to those public servant buffoons on Capitol Hill to do? Harass and bully professional sports teams?
Yes.
In some parts, if you want black coffee, you order it plain. In other parts, you ask for it black & barefoot.

When I first ordered Black Coffee in the ‘South’ it would be black but like syrup as the waitress (or whoever) would think since I was not going to take cream or milk I must want more sugar to ‘kill the bitterness?’....
Never did get a real reason why some people think sugar is essential in Coffee or Tea....Still have to order Iced Tea ‘Unsweetened’, otherwise one may get a glass of syrup labeled sweet tea.
Bloomberg would have a ‘field day’ in points south.
About the Redskins ....
Used to really think it Ironic when those two ‘pillars of PC’, Ted Turner and Jane (UGH) Fonda (I’m STILL not fonda jane) would sit there doing the ‘Atlanta Chop’ while watching a baseball game...
The Washington Tax and Spenders would be a cool name.
Black coffee will soon be verboten. Well have to order it African American

If only the ‘average’ Black person would study up on what the Africans really ‘think’ about American Blacks, they would NOT want to be called ‘African Americans’.
And I mean PAST the fact that the Africans sold the Africans to slavers, am talking ‘modern times’.
In the same respect, a lot of ‘Irish Irish’ think of us Americans of ‘Irish descent’ as Yanks with an Irish name - bring your money but leave your ‘bad habits’ at home.
I guess if you dig deep enough the ‘original Irish that fled to the Americas’ would be considered having given up the ‘mother land’.....no matter how bad or the reason including those indentured by the British etal.
Excellent! Conveys the core values of our Nation's Capital.
Call the Redskins the Washington Reds and replace the Chief with the feathers on the helmet with a red flag?
Inventing a problem you think you can solve is an old trick.
There was a new restaurant that, before it opened, was asked to change its name. The name, you ask? C.O. Jones. People (3, to be exact) complained it was derogatory. They never changed the name, and never opened. Welcome to Connecticut.
Symbolism over substance. Just another way to make people acutely aware that they are not guilty enough.
Not sure I would go so far to say Democrat women are dogs, but, I see your point.
As a group, Republican/conservative women seem to be strikingly attractive. Whereas, Democrat/liberal women tend to be, well, not so feminine appearing/attractive, whatever term we can use to describe it.
There are so many names which are offensive, not just Indian nicknames.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish, offends the Irish
Boston Celtics, offends the Celtic/Irish people
Milwaukee Brewers, offends beer companies and their workers
Green Bay Packers, offends meat packers
Pittsburgh Steelers, offends steel workers
Pittsburgh Pirates, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Oakland Raiders, is giving honor to criminals and outlaws.
San Diego Padres, offensive to the Catholic church, Catholics, and priests everywhere.
Texas Rangers, offensive to the law enforcement agency of that same name.
Chicago White Sox - does this offend people of color???
New Orleans Saints - offensive to the saints of the Catholic Church.
I’m sure there are others, but you get the point. To be politically correct, we will have to cleanse society of so many established institutions and names.
Here in Pensacola we have a baseball team named Blue Wahoo, it’s a fish. I wonder who is offended.
I played the Rename the Redskins game with a friend. My idea, Washington Werewolves, was trumped by my friend’s idea, Washington Wevils (spelling intentional).
RedDems?
Well I’ve always called them the Washington Foreskins so they can go with that.
Or how about “The Crack Heads?”
The democrat Party should change its name too then, it also is a misnomer and a lie.
In keeping with the high standards of 53% of American voters: Washington Whatevers.
Watch out, Blackhawks fans - you’re next (starting with that Indian head on the best-looking jerseys in the NHL).
