Here we go again. Actually, it's an ongoing effect by those who embrace political correctness to the point way beyond stupidity. The Washington Redskins professional football team has been pressured by people and organizations for years who feel the use of the name "Redskins" is derogatory, offensive, insensitive, racist, and whatever other label you want to throw at it. Now, the Democrats are stepping up the attack as well.
As reported in The Hill, Democrats in the House of Representatives have introduced a bill that would "prevent the term 'Redskins' from being trademarked." Why, you ask? It's simple. These Democrats want the Washington Redskins to drop the name.
The Non-Disparagement of American Indians in Trademark Registrations Act of 2013 is co-sponsored by Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.), and comes days after a federal trademark panel heard arguments over whether the team name was a slur. The panel could potentially overturn the team's trademark, which would erode profits by allowing other businesses to sell apparel and goods featuring the Redskins name.
Earlier this month, Norton said the team "should consider" a new name.
“Nobody would let a comparable name to blacks stand," Norton said, adding that she thinks the team will eventually be forced to make a change.
Here's the real problem. As noted in the story, there are "renewed calls in Washington politics and media for the team to change the name." But notice, the sentence specifies "Washington politics and media." Where's the public outcry. Let's listen... All I hear are crickets. That's because this is NO outcry.
All of these PC efforts are just ridiculous. The story also points out that numerous high school teams use the Redskins name. And these are coming under attack too. But it's not from local residents. It's from legal groups and left-wing organizations who want to tell the public how to think, and force teams to change all under threat of lawsuit.
To see how ridiculous this has become, just look at the oped in The Washington Post. The headline reads, "The Redskins name is really valuable, and really offensive. Here’s how to fix it." So, he says the name isn't just offensive, but it's "really" offensive. Wow... really? The only example the author cites is from another left-wing writer. That's hardly a plethora of evidence.
If people want change, they will demand it. It's as simple as that. Let the Washington Redskins be the Redskins. Let's move on to something more important like the budget, the debt, taxes, jobs, national security, or a host of other issues that are actually important.
It is highly doubtful the Democrat Party will ever get back to any level of sanity. Unfortunately for them and America, they've slipped under the swamp.
They are over run by progressives, marxists, alinskyites, homosexuals, lesbians and the welfare recipients they've created.
If they are to get credit for anything, it’s they have figured out how to relate to the dumbed down populous their public education system has created. They don’t ever solve problems, they figure out ways to get those dumbed down masses to believe they are doing something, and when you have almost 50% of the population standing there with there hands out, looking for cookies, you have figured out how to maintain lifelong power, while never accomplishing anything.
And just look at the two colossal imbeciles who run the legislative end of this evil machine: Hairy Reed and Nutsy Pelousy!
Democrats like pushing the homo agenda, so how about the Washington Pillowbiters?

So a farmer can’t trademark a brand of redskin potatoes?
I bet they wouldn’t have any problem with them using the ‘Washington Crackers’ though.

To provide more honest branding with the city, how about the Washington Parasites or Washington Drones.

...and all kidding aside, any private corporation (and that’s what the Washington Redskins are) has tremendous equity in their brand, trademark, etc...so will we as taxpayers have to pay the recompence due the team owners? Or will the owner just have to lose the equity that has built up over many decades? (not that I care so much for Daniel Snyder, it’s the point...)
Good summation of the state of Democrat insanity. Fundamentally its all about power and control. The Democrat Way is built around a base of power crazed elitists who control all the key institutions in society. They are then in a position to dole out endless government largesse in return for votes from the legions of takers who who are conditioned to have a sense of entitlement. It’s an incestuous system for sure.
Naturally the elites have a vested interest in maintaining their power as that power ensures the continuation of their cushy and secure jobs in government, academia, and the legal establishment. One reason Dems fight so hard for this system is that to lose an election could mean the loss of their own job security.
You gave the Dems credit for figuring out how to maintain lifelong power. I give them credit for playing to win. Repbulicans will never effect any significant change until they have a change of mindset and unapologetically go on offense.

Eleanor Holmes Norton is a finger wagging liberal scold.
Years ago there was a movement in D.C. among black fathers to set up a separate school for boys to teach them values of real manliness, honor, & Christian virtue. Norton crashed their initial meeting and declared “Wherever the menfolk are gathered, the matron will appear!” She then labeled the men `sexist’ for favoring single sex schooling and warned them not to proceed.
When then speaker Newt Gingrich defeated a House measure to give her the vote, Norton said she would confront him in the hallway and kick him in the shins.
