It would be fun to sneak in some night ... remove the body ... and replace it with a rubber chicken.

Pope John XXIII is laid out in St. Peter’s, although the sequencing of the display was different. He was properly buried at the time of death. His body was moved after he was beatified and was found to be well preserved, so it was decided to put him on display. It’s a little grotesque IMHO, but hey ... it’s Rome, so over the top fits right in.

From what I’ve read, there’s very little of the original Lenin left. Eyes, ears, nose — all wax now. The brain was removed when he died and of course he never had a heart ...

These pickled dictators are just a last grasp of their cult of personality. The memory of them is important not their deeds or words. Look at the Lincoln and Jefferson memorials in Washington...the emphasis is on their words carved into the memorial.
I was also struck by the video of the changing of the guards at Ho Chi Minh's tomb. They reminded me of our own guards at the tomb of the unknowns in Arlington. The big difference is that we bestow this honor on ordinary unknown soldiers killed in defending this country. No leaders or even presidents are given this honor.
