I think I was mistaking him with Arinze.
Father Jonathan told the Friends that the Pope will still live in Vatican City after he resigns.

PETER THE ROMAN will be next and last.
I was extremely fortunately to be walking down Via Concilliazione in 1978, in the Vatican, with family and friends. We had a perfect view of the chimney from which the smoke announcing the selection of a new Pope by the Conclave emanates, watched the smoke rise, then turn black. Pope John Paul I had a very short-lived papacy. I was at work in the Embassy the following week, they announced the selection of JP II. The Italian police guarding the perimeter were agog, shouting “Il Polacco, Il Polacco!!”

Not Malachy Martin. St. Malachy. You’re off by about 690 years.
KMOV’s FB page has the most disturbing Catholic bashing I have ever seen. Most of it groundless and the folks that are pushing it freak out when some disses the Obama. It is not like me t0 be affected by it. I was shaken by the venom and ignorance. The Church has its work cut out..
and the media is already hinting at the next pope being italian...
hmmmmm.
No is the official answer to all three questions, perhaps is the actual answer, probably in an unofficial fashion is my opinion. (I am often wrong, so ymmv.)
Does this mean that “The One” will resign to take his place and promote “Joe Bite Me” as the next President?
Do you think he's doing this to assure that he will have input in the choice of the successor to the Chair of St. Peter?
May the Holy Spirit give us another such as he!
This is unbelievable.
Honestly, I don’t have any suggestions about what the Conclave might do. It’s said that things were rather in a muddle following the death of Pope John Paul, but Cardinal Ratzinger’s handling of the funeral and the opening of the Conclave led to a quick consensus that he was the right man for the time. (In my opinion, the last several years have confirmed this.)
As for a group that is spiritually influential at this time, I would look for a strong presence from the African and Asian Cardinals: from places where deadly persecution is an ongoing reality. Perhaps from parts of Central and South America, for the same reason.
I don’t recall where I read, just recently, that the Council of Nicea was “a Congress of Martyrs,” but the article or lecture described the mutilations and injuries of the attendees, and said those who were whole in body were noticeably a minority. There is nothing new under the sun, as our man Solomon said, and I believe the voices of the martyrs will be profoundly influential.
If the Vatican has an affirmative action policy set in place maybe they can hire this guy as the first modern Black Pope!
