California's state Senate Democrats roll out big gun control package (Considering to Confiscate)

All semi-automatic rifles with detachable magazines would be banned, all guns would be registered and no ammunition could be bought without a special permit in California under a sweeping list of bills rolled out Thursday by state Senate Democrats.

The 10-bill package constitutes the single largest gun control push in decades in the Golden State, which already boasts some of the nation's strictest gun laws. It joins equally controversial proposals from Assembly Democrats that would regulate and tax ammunition sales and consider taking the state's 166,000 registered assault weapons from their owners.

This first unified California plan comes less than a month after New York adopted its own sweeping package of new gun controls and President Barack Obama announced a package of executive actions, all in the wake of December's Connecticut schoolhouse massacre. Even as this plan emerged Thursday, House Democrats' gun violence task force was announcing 15 "policy principles," including protecting Second Amendment rights but also instituting universal background checks and reinstating a federal assault weapons ban.

"We respect the Second Amendment right of law-abiding citizens to have guns for hunting, for sport,

proliferation of guns designed to be fired and reloaded rapidly," he said. "We can save lives by getting guns and ammunition out of the hands of the wrong people. We can save lives if every gun owner knows how to safely handle those guns. And if we can save lives, we must act to do so."

Gene Hoffman of Redwood City, co-founder and chairman of the Calguns Foundation gun rights group, countered that "almost every item in the proposal is wildly unconstitutional."

Tough to believe this is even worse than what we are facing here in the People’s Republic of Maryland, but it may be worse!

Wife and I have been working on our own version of the Winchester Mystery house, those in CA should know what I am referring to, in the Gold Country. Well suited for a SHTF scenario, but now it is time to get the house in a marketable condition and get the hell out of here.

Random groups of thugs, looters, and zombies we can handle. Armored personnel carrier, drone over watched, machine gun toting SWAT teams ain't going to work.

Time to move on to someplace we can live out the rest of our years in the USA. Must be one or two states left.

I saw this coming in 1999. It took a few months to identify a suitable new place for my household. We relocated from San Diego to the Pocatello, ID area. The only downside is that the contracts that allowed me to continue my employment from my home office died suddenly when Obama arrived on the scene. My family and firearms are safe in Idaho. I'm constrained to live in a rented bedroom in San Diego to retain my employment. That has persisted since June 2009. It may be time to simply thrown in the towel and find something satisfactory at home in Idaho.

No matter if it is rated blue( because of the septic tanks of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh), Pennsylvania is really firearm friendly. No restrictions on type of firearm or magazine capacity. CCW permit in two weeks without even a qualification course. Open and concealed carry .Castle Doctrine. The ONLY law making body that can change a firearm law is the state legislature.
Home to about 1 million deer hunters who use high powered rifles and not shotguns. You can even have your” Winchester Cabin” in the millions of acres of forest land that exists in the state.

Regarding California's strict gun bill, as mentioned in related threads, John Bingham, the main author of Sec. 1 of the 14th Amendment, had included the 2nd Amendment when he read the Bill of Rights as examples of constitutional statutes containing priviliges and immunities which the 14th Amendment applied to the states. See the 2nd Amendment in the middle column of the page at the following link.
Congressional Globe, House of Representatives, 42nd Congress, 1st Session

And what's really interesting about the 14th Amendment is the following. Military issues aside, Sec. 5 of 14A seems to indicate that the only gun legislation that Congress can make is to protect citizens' privileges and immunities, including the 2nd Amendment, from abridgement by the states.

Reminder: Under California Gov Pete Wilson and AG Dan Lundgren, they required ALL SKS rifles be registered and Lundgren publicly promised no effort to confiscate would follow. In the second year of that mandated registration Lundgren ordered all SKS rifles be turned in to the state or anybody caught with one will go to jail and pay a hefty fine. This crap is not going to stop until these scallywags feel some sort of pain (backlash) for their legislating away our liberties. NAZI BASS TERDS

under a sweeping list of bills rolled out Thursday by state Senate Democrats.

They are banning the wrong thing (of course) which will have unintended consequences... AGAIN.

This is a textbook example of projection. The "liberal" thought process that manifests as elevated levels of crime is being projected (by the liberals) onto the "evil guns."

You have no Second Amendment right for hunting or sport.
You have a Second Amendment right (AND OBLIGATION) to be part of the Militia, to defend the People.

Why did 166,000 people register their weapons?

I'm not sure. A misplaced belief in the probity of governments at every level ?

That violates ones 4th amendment rights

Ah,yes. The so called "Bill of Rights" pity no one bothers to abide by it any more especially governments.

Four seasons. High 90’s in summer to sometimes below 0 in winter. Much like Bear Lake I suppose!

"We respect the Second Amendment right of law-abiding citizens to have guns for hunting, for sport..."

The second amendment is not about hunting or sporting. It's about this right here! It's about these non-representing representatives and other agents of and within government who think it lies within the scope of thier powers to tyrannize the citizens of this republic.

“Maybe these bills will be watered down and/or not pass. It’s not set in concrete - yet.”

I would suggest not holding your breath on that hope. This will be a test for the NRA’s effectiveness in championing 2nd Amendment rights. The California Dems criminally irresponsible legislation will wind up in court, win in all the lower courts up to and including the 9th Circus, before winding up in the USSC.....

There will be a landmark USSC decision over all the gun laws the California legislature rams through. (No-one can stop the Dems from passing anything they want in Cal.) Let’s hope the make-up of the Court remains as it is today.

Yeah elections do matter....one conservative Justice dies or resigns and we will officially be a bananna republic complete with a tin horn resident President for Life.

Conservatives best keep their eyes focused on California/NY.....failure to bring these states to the curb will have devastating results for our nation’s future

Haynes v. U.S. (1968) Need to remind the legislatures about this.

Criminals can not be prosecuted for NOT registering their firearms.

Remember this from the AW ban?

A firearm suitable for sporting use may not be considered suitable for sporting use.
