Is Fox News really different?
WND.com ^ | January 29, 2013 | Joseph Farah

Posted on 01/31/2013 7:11:03 AM PST by Tolerance Sucks Rocks

For many Americans, Fox News is their “alternative” choice for news.

They’ve made it the No. 1 cable news network, largely because they believe its “fair and balanced” promotional slogan.

Many even believe Fox leans to the right and provides news they can’t get anywhere else.

But is Fox really different from the rest of the media? Or has it been successful merely at positioning itself as different?

Would it surprise you to know that individuals at News Corp., the parent company of Fox News, gave nearly six times as much money to Barack Obama than Mitt Romney in the 2011-2012 election cycle?

Would it surprise you to know that individuals at News Corp. gave more to Rep. Howard Berman, D-Calif., than to Mitt Romney?

Would it surprise you to know that individuals at News Corp. gave more to Ben Cardin, Democrat from Maryland, than to Mitt Romney?

Would it surprise you to know that News Corp. gave more than twice as much to Democratic candidates in 2012 than to Republicans?

Would it surprise you that this pattern was about the same in 2010 and 2008?

Would it surprise you to know that News Corp. gave far more money to Democrats running for both the House and Senate in 2012 than to Republicans?

Do the owners and top managers of Fox News and News Corp. not have the right to support any candidates they want to support?

Of course they do.

But the American people have a right to know where the hearts and minds and pocketbooks of their trusted news sources really are – especially when it comes to politics.

Fox News has certainly learned there is a vast public audience whose values and worldviews are unserved by the major media. That’s the secret to its success.

I turned off TV news after election night.

Me too, I just don't give a fat rat's ass anymore.

I'm a greedy, old, rich, white guy that is a bigot and homophobe, but it feels like I'm a patriot that served my Country, and it is going the way of Rome.

Let the wagon riders figure it out and when the wagon stops going forward, the smell and the wail will be something to behold.

They can all ESAD.

It is excellent, although Hannity seems like a broken record - constantly repeating himself, sort of a one trick pony - I’m finding him hard to watch and often don’t.

"Yes, I have found over the last couple of years, that I have been watching Fox Business channel more than Fox News channel. I love the Varney & Co. show they have on early in the morning."

I would give a plug for Fox Business, as well. It is consistenly better than Fox cable news and Stuart Varney is more American than a lot of Americans.

The story here is that Fox News, which claims to be “not liberal”...supports liberal candidates financially.

There are also a lot of people who ID themselves as Conservative who watch Fox News because they bought the spin that Fox News is conservative.....and quite a few of those types frequent this site

Faux News liberalism is now more evident....and its falling ratings are showing

Hanity is a lightweight. He has never successfuly pushed any call to action.

Rush has but he is so timid on certain issues. (ie marriage, boy scouts, second amendment and too heavy on the golf and football)

Yes, FOX is different, even with the trembling Miss Shepard Smith and the other liberals on the station.

How do I know FOX is doing something good? The assclown is attacking the network.

He even had his bubble headed bleach blonde Mary Landrieu attack FOX in a speech on the floor of the Senate!

Add after "football": "and the greatness of Rush Limbaugh." No shrinking violet is he!

Thanks for posting that remarkable vid of FBI Dir. Muller being unsure of whether it’s OK for our government to kill American Citizens on USA soil without due process!

Read my tagline.

The only show on Fox that is truly conservative, with no liberal counterpoint, is on at 3 in the morning. What does that tell you?

If you are using TV news as your primary source of information, then you are either sorely uninformed or purposely misinformed.

...I take it then, that you wish to only see programs pushing one side of any particular issue, which of course is your right...

...but you then imply that news gleaned any other way than your unifocal approach constitutes misinformation...just curious as to why you believe that an issue examined from various angles equals deliberate misinformation...I get that you might not like hearing another point of view, but purposeful misdirection???
...but, you could be right...

The story here is that Fox News, which claims to be “not liberal”...supports liberal candidates financially.

Except WND didn't provide facts to back that up. Farah conveniently only referenced contributions from employee's of NewsCorp. NewsCorp is a much, much bigger entity than Fox News. As I pointed out in my previous post, NewsCorp includes newspapers from around the world, a major Hollywood studio, an entertainment network, sports programming, etc, etc.

In order to know if Fox News is different than the other networks when it comes to political contributions, we'd need statistics of what Fox News employees gave - NOT what political contributions came from the vastly bigger NewsCorp.

...while I know most on this forum will not like this, I think when Hannity lost his foil Colmes, he lost his reason for being...he may not be a rhodes scholar, but he routinely used to massacre Colmes and his points, and seem to have fun doing it, which gave the show needed humor, and great to watch...
...now he just seems to be embittered, growing visibly older and sullen...
