BURLINGTON, Vt. The Burlington Police Department is getting caught in the crossfire between Burlington City Council and Second Amendment advocates.
A shooting range in Morrisville, Vt. is no longer letting Burlington Police officers train there.

I think that the Lamoille Valley Fish and Game Club could make this even more amusing by sponsoring a fun event for “LEOs who support the 2nd Amendment”.
That is, throw a party for all the other police who show up, and not invite the Burlington PD.
The Burlington Police Department is staying out of the debate, but did release a statement.Dialogue??? The time for any dialogue is before a vote is taken, not after. The vote is a monologue - politicians vote for a ban; their subjects submit to it."It is unfortunate that this important and much-needed community dialogue regarding gun control currently under way in the city of Burlington and across the nation has resulted in this action," writes Deputy Chief Andy Higbee.
This follows a Burlington City Council vote earlier this month to ban semi-automatic rifles and large-capacity magazines. What did the cops have to say when the ban was under consideration? Did they support it?
The Police Chief's job depends on this same group who passed this ordinance, he has to play politics in every facet of his life. But I would like to know how the rank and file police officers feel about this.
I’m sure glad Florida decided state law preempts all the local jurisdictions on firearms.
Good for the firing range; sticking to their principles over profit.
“The Police Chief’s job depends on this same group who passed this ordinance, he has to play politics in every facet of his life.”
Wahhhh, he works for the public. Either he supports the ban or he doesn’t. Time to choose which side you are on.
I have been a police chief. The Chief needs to stand with the community and with the constitution. If he is afraid for his job, then he shouldn’t be in the job in the first place.
Chiefs are generally at will employees. Granted that after a time there becomes a property interest right but that is for another discussion.
The single advice I give to Chiefs is to always do the right thing. To always be preparted that today is your last day on the job but leave having made the right decision.
I read this the other day, and I never get tired of reading it. Thanks for posting!
Well no, the problem is your bosses on the council decided to strangle "dialogue" by passing the stupid ordinance. Piss be upon you. May Ethan Allen Firing Range see the light and let your dog-shooters practice at the gravel pit like the rest of us.
Did you know that today is his 275th birthday?
Well so it is! Knock me over with a feather, FRiend!
Happy Birthday, Colonel. We’re doing our best to be like you.
Unfortunately my best is closer to an Ethan Allen couch potato than the actual Ethan Allen. :/
What does Burlington need police for, anyway? Them weenies has banned all the guns!
