Did the New York state legislature just accidentally make it a crime to merely OWN a firearm?
See page 22 of the posted bill, s2230:
§ 41-a. The penal law is amended by adding a new section 265.01-b to 5 read as follows:
6 § 265.01-b Criminal possession of a firearm.
7 A person is guilty of criminal possession of a firearm when he or she:
8 (1) possesses any firearm or; (2) lawfully possesses a firearm prior to
9 the effective date of the chapter of the laws of two thousand thirteen
10 which added this section subject to the registration requirements of
11 subdivision sixteen-a of section 400.00 of this chapter and knowingly
12 fails to register such firearm pursuant to such subdivision.
13 Criminal possession of a firearm is a class E felony.

[[And plenty of Republicans voted for the new NY gun law, which is truly amazing.]]
Well that’s what I’m talking about- America is lost to socilaism- even our own party has sold it’s soul- The rights our forefathers fought and gave hteir lives for are no longer valid or a concern to Americans- As long as they git their gubmint money, they will give up all manner of morals and decency and rights- We’ve just all been witrness to the itnernal downfall of this once great nation-
I’ll never, as long as I libve, forget the itnerview with a black woman by a fox reporter asking her why she voted for oberma- she said somethign along the lines of “Because He’s goign to give us free money- I’m gonna git me osme of that mbsama money” and the reporter asked her where trhat money was goign to come from she responded ‘It’s just free”
Never as long as i live will I forget that interview- I knew right then that America had changed for hte worse- I knew right then that we went from a nation of doers to a nation of takers and that it was only a matter of time before we’d be right where we are today watchign governor cuomo AND the republicans voting on a bill that woudl strip it’s citizens of their constitutional rights-

Have one and not register it...that would be the crime..as I read it.
People are not dumb enough to register their guns with the new state registry.
The long-gun registry worked so well in Canada it was finally abolished.
If no one complies, that’s a lot of people to arrest and lock up. For the cops, its not worth the hassle.
Especially when failure to register is a misdemeanor offense. And who is going to compel New York to voluntarily register? Andrew Cuomo? In his dreams!
It makes him look good but mark my words: it won’t get a single gun off the streets in New York in the future.
[[Obama is following Hitlers strategy to the letter]]
Obsamar- what abotu cuomo? Cuomo is twice as brazen as him and cuomo IS goign top run and most likely win in 2016 because he will make one promise after another making peopel think they will get all kinds of ‘free stuff’ fro m the gubmint- and even IF cuomo loses- he’ll lose to who? Yup- that’s right- Sellout Christie- but if cuomo does win- it’s goign to be VERY VERY bad for this nation- He’s already provign that he’s a brazen criminal who will ILLEGALLY violate our constitutional rights every chance he can- with htis bill in NY- he let america know he doesn’t give a #$#@@#$ what they think he’s goign to steam roll right over them- and he knows full well this kind of brazen tactics unbeleivably attracts voters-
Let’s assume this was a s mistake for a moment. This is why do don’t write or pass laws on emotion.
Ammunition magazines will be restricted to seven bullets, from the current 10, and current owners of higher-capacity magazines will have a year to sell them out of state. An owner caught at home with eight or more bullets in a magazine will face a misdemeanor charge.
Probably best they don’t move. I don’t want a bunch of liberal whiny babies migrating to other states and sucking them dry there.
[[Especially when failure to register is a misdemeanor offense.]]
Thaty’s the point- this new law gives the police antoehr source of income to STEAL from us- everytiem they find an unregistered gun- Kaching- money in the bank for them
Not according to that snippet of statute ... in NY possession of an unregistered firearm (which goes hand-in-hand with failure to register) is now a Class E felony.
They have been killing unborn chillrun by the millions for 40 some odd years now.
Folks, we be the frog in the pot right now and we just found out the water is hotternhell.
Its already bad for this nation..the moment Obama was re-elected a part of this country died..Cuomo wants to be President..that is why he is doing this..its all about 2016 for him..depends what kind of country we have in 2016 if he stands a chance..but we might not have a country by the time 2016 comes around and if we do, we will probably be stuck with fat lard ass Chris Christie because the GOP will never learn it’s lesson
Obama, Cuomo (whom this article is actually about). I’m telling you, these demonic-rats are actually thugs and Communists or Marxists, whatever you want to call them. Wealthy elites. Union thugs are the same as Hitler’s SS. Voters with their hands out are the idiot dupes and they’ll turn on us just like the people turned on the Jews, which is why they must first disarm us!
I don’t think it will all be one way. I think criminals may like the new law.
You're correct. “. . .and knowingly fails to register such firearm. . .” I presume this encompasses any and all private firearms that are capable of firing.
My job put me in Massachusetts for two years in the 1980’s. The first time I drove into the state I passed a large official sign warning me that it was a felony to enter Mass with unregistered firearms.
Later I tried to buy a carton of bullets for a pistol I owned but never declared. The guy at the gun shop said he couldn't sell me ammo unless I produced a pistol permit. Later on I was building an office in a warehouse I leased. I went to rent a nail gun. The rental shop clerk said I needed a pistol permit to rent a nail gun.
I heard the gun laws in Mass loosened up a bit in the ‘90’s. It may have been that everybody was driving to Vermont and buying about anything they wanted. And Mass was losing the sales.
Not accidently, no.
That's an easy fix. A couple double taps on the magazine inspector's directon and you are down to 8.
