Computer users told to disable Java Press Association 16 hours ago
Press Association - Computer owners in the US have been advised to temporarily disable Java software (AP)
The US Department of Homeland Security has advised people to temporarily disable the Java software on their computers to avoid potential hacking attacks.
The recommendation came in an advisory which was issued following concerns raised by computer security experts.
Experts believe hackers have found a flaw in Java's coding that creates an opening for criminal activity and other hi-tech mischief.
Java is a widely used technical language that allows computer programmers to write a wide variety of internet applications and other software programs that can run on just about any computer's operating system.
Oracle bought Java as part of a 7.3 billion US dollars acquisition of the software's creator, Sun Microsystems, in 2010.

Sounds like ORACLE didn’t make the “recommended” donation to Omoslem.
Once they do, this security concern should spontaneously go away.
So how do you disable it?
It wouldnt hurt to go to the control panel and either to add remove programs in XP or in Windows 7 it is programs and features and after the list comes up uninstall or remove anything java related. Apparently from what Im reading it is a genuine threat for now until Oracle/Java announces a fix. I am.
FYI
From Firefox/Mozilla:
In order to protect you, Firefox has stopped the Java plugin from running automatically because it has a security issue. However, you can still use Java on trusted sites if necessary. Well show you how [via the link below]:

DHS. Yeah, they caught the underwear bomber, the shoe bomber, the tooth fairy bomber. All before anything happened. Yeah. Riggghhhhttttt!
Just checked the wife’s barely-secure Win 7 Asus laptop. Java has already been disabled on it too!
Thousands of corporate applications run on Java. Stop them? Absurd! How do we disable these “experts”?
I use firefox - go to tools, add ons.

In other news, DHS warns consumers the burrito special at Taco Bell is too spicy this week.
Just click on your “system” icon, then “files.” It should bring up an alphabetical list of everything loaded into the PC. Got to the files you want to delete, highlight it, then hit UNINSTALL. It takes only a few seconds and you’re done.
I went to Control Panel and disabled Java. Hopefully that will do it.
Frankly, I thought that the MS version, way back when, integrated better with Windows, but they lost a patent fight and agreed to abandon their gadget.
Funny that you mention the ‘recomended donation’ Trend is reporting that they have seen ransomware that used this Java vulnerability as the vector to the target PC.
Problem with disabling Java is that many things one does on the internet no longer work right or work at all. Videos won’t run, Facebook stops in it’s tracks, games are worthless, etc. Disable it if you think Homeland Security knows what they’re doing. “We’re from the government and we’re here to help.” Otherwise, screw him or her or whatever that fat, ugly beast is, who is the head of Homeland Security.
“i disabled mine yesterday and have yet to see a website i can’t load and use...”
Bank of America’s on-line banking site doesn’t work w/Java disabled.
