A local New York newspaper is drawing the ire of its readers after publishing an interactive map that shows the names and addresses of thousands of residents who have handgun permits.
The online map was published by The Journal News along with an article under the headline: "The gun owner next door: What you don't know about the weapons in your neighborhood."
The newspaper obtained, and then published, the names and addresses of pistol permit holders in Westchester and Rockland counties through a Freedom of Information Act request.
The article, in explaining the decision to publish the information, pointed to the school massacre in nearby Newtown, Conn., and the concerns of some residents about which of their neighbors might have firearms.

"The newspaper separately noted that the reporter on the story "owns a Smith & Wesson 686 .357 Magnum and has had a residence permit in New York City for that weapon since February 2011."
Yes, but where does that employee live?

The left always overreaches.
ALWAYS.
And the hell they unleash is not going to be a Marxian fantasy. More like revolutionary France. Except worse. For them.

Firearms are expensive, and highly desirable by criminals.
I wonder if this “newspaper” has considered publishing the names and addresses of coin collectors, stamp collectors, or the owners of any high value jewelery?
On the other hand, I suppose that any criminals wanting to do “home invasion” style robberies would look on this as a good thing, informing them of homes NOT to target.
These sanctimonious “newspaper” publishers are scum. If they’re willing to call any gun owner a possible murderer, are they also going to call any woman a possible prostitute?

At least for the people living in that same state. Those living in different states only have to answer to their home states concerning means of home self defense. The “permits” for New Jersey would only apply whilst actually in New Jersey

“The gun owner next door: What you don’t know about the weapons in your neighborhood.”
And, you still don’t. The guns about which you should be worried are NOT the ones on this map. Rather, they are the ones that are in the hands of convicted felons, evil poeple bent on murder and mayhem, and the like. They generally do not comply with laws and statutes. It limits their options.

Drudge doesnt seem to think its important.
Nor does he want to link to NY (D) Nadlers comment about the 'state having a monopoly on legitimite violence'

Some bloggers have already done so. A link to their page was in one of the earlier threads. Might already be in this one.

Yup, the gun I know, owned by the neighbor I know, virtually always isn’t a worry at all.
A hundred or so people ought to all write in separately to the paper’s editor and say “Thank you... I mean the gun owners, of course!”

The intent was to whip up gun hysteria. It failed. Got to hand it to the yankees though....some arent so against the 2nd amendment.Yep - many of the neighbors may have already known who had some weapons. Others knew the people and had no reason to feel threatened. I'll bet more of those who don't own weapons will decide to obtain them than the number who will be "up in arms" about those who already have them.
